DKMA, which came into existence in May 2016 with the sole intention of helping bereaved and aggrieved poor Muslim families in Dakshina Kannada district in case of sudden demise of their breadwinners, had already given identity and health cards to around 150 beneficiaries.

Speaking after distributing the cards, S M Rashid Haji, the founder president of DKMA, said that 40 more beneficiaries will be provided cards at Yedapadavu on February 2.

He said that the Association has already provided Rs 2 lakhs each to two families so far and another family will receive the same amount next week.

The Association is supposed to donate Rs 2 lakh to the family of each beneficiary card holder after his or her demise. The families of only those who get beneficiary cards from DKMA will be eligible to receive the amount. The beneficiaries will also be eligible to get free treatment at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital at Deralakatte.

Mangaluru, Mar 28: Dakshina Kannada District observed a total shutdown on Saturday with closure of all shops, barring milk booths and pharmacy, to prevent spread of deadly Coronavirus.

The Central Market, a hub of activities where vegetables, groceries, flowers are sold, remained closed. Despite the milk booths and pharmacies being exempted from the purview of bandh, only a few milk booths remained open here.

The administration decided to go far bandh ion the wake of people failing to follow the lockdown guidelines of maintaining social distance and some wandering on the streets without valid reason. Moreover, there was increase in the number of corona cases despite measures taken, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh said.

Addressing a press conference at the Government Secretariat here, the Chief Minister said, "It is really unfortunate that people from Kasargod district in Kerala are still being denied treatment in hospitals at Mangalore in Karnataka State."
