Mangaluru: AJ hosts ‘Phoenix 2017

Mangaluru, Mar 22: A J Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre is conducting PHOENIX 2017, an International Medical Students’ Conference, from March 22 to 26. K.C. Venugopal, a Member of Parliament will be the chief guest for the inaugural programme on March 23 at the A. J. Auditorium.

Dr. Thimappa Hegde, the Director of the Narayana Institute of Neurosciences & Sri. M. Chandra Sekhar, the Police Commissioner of Mangaluru City, will also be joining us as our guests of honour for the commencement ceremony of the conference.

PHOENIX 2017 is for both the undergraduates and postgraduates from all over the world. In fact, this is our second edition; the first one was conducted in 2014 (PHOENIX 2014).

Dr. Zhuo Hua Pan from Wayne State University, USA, Dr. Roger Evans from Monash University, Australia, Dr. Anita Borges from Asian Institute of Oncology, Dr. Ranjan Kumar Pejavar from St.Martha's Hospital, Dr. Anthony Pais from Narayana Hrudalaya- Mazumdar Shaw Institute of Oncology and Dr. Cheng Hwee Ming from University of Malaya, Malaysia among others are the speakers. Students from over 50 countries with over 250 original research papers being presented are expected to participate in the event.

New Delhi, Jun 27: Wasim Akhtar, a journalist and founder of an online news portal, is helping the poor and needy people in the ongoing lockdown.

Not only is he helping them financially but also providing emotional support and setting the right example of humanity.

"I was very disturbed during the first 14 days of lockdown especially after seeing such sad videos about needy and poor people. But then I decided to move out of my house and help these poor people despite the fear of COVID-19 coronavirus. We supply ration to around 200 people every day so that their families won't sleep hungry," narrated Wasim Akhtar.

Waseem Akhtar and his team are contacting daily wagers and other needy people who have been locked jobless in their houses for the past 70 days. They are the people who will not beg for food to anybody, rather choose to sleep hungry. They are making sure to help the people in the remotest places by directly transferring the money in the accounts of needy people.

They have been feeding many migrants at Kurla and VT stations. "At VT station, there was a group of Tamilian migrants among which there were six women and two men, who didn't know Hindi or English language, who were helpless and nowhere to go to, we send them back to their natives," said Wasim when asked about it.

The Giving Care Foundation also funded the funeral of a 65-year old man at the Worli crematorium. They took care of the expenses of the delivery of a Kolkata-based woman whose husband was stuck in Mumbai. Along with this, they arranged everything for the funeral of a young girl who died after her prolonged illness amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Being a Muslim myself, I urge all the fellow Muslims that limit your expenses and help the poor and needy in such times," concluded Wasim Akhtar.

Mangaluru, June 14: The management of Barakah International School and College has announced to waive off 33% of tuition fee in order to lessen the burden on parents who are undergoing financial crisis due to covid lockdown. 

This decision was taken after a series of virtual meetings with the Managing Director, Academic Director, Principal, Manager and PRO.

“While the school needs to continue to meet all the commitments and responsibilities towards the staff salaries, software, networking, etc, we fully understand that in the prevailing circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, job loss, reduction in salaries, general hardships of the self-employed businesses and the slowdown in the economy,” sated a release issued by the school.

“We would support our parent fraternity pro-actively and at the same time continue to meet the high-quality standards of our teaching- learning process and infrastructure so it has been decided that 1/3 of the tuition fee to be waived off for 2020-21,” the release said.

Mangaluru, May. 21: The Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI Mangaluru) is held the Eid Kits distribution program on Wednesday, 27th day of Ramadan (20.05.2020) at BCCI office in Kankanady, Mangaluru. 

It distributed around 250 kits including some cash amount to the needy
