Mangaluru, Dec 20: Activists of Bajrang Dal on Sunday evening tried to raid multiplexes at prominent malls in Mangaluru to stop the screening of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dilwale.

The reason for the agitation is the statement made by the King Khan, film's lead actor and producer, against rising 'intolerance' in India last month.

On November 2, Khan had said at a press conference in Mumbai that “religious intolerance and not being secular is the worst kind of crime that you can do as a patriot.”

The protesters gathered in front of Bharat Mall, City Centre Mall and Forum Fiza Mall that house multiplexes and warned to raid the cinemas if the failed to stop the screening of Dilwale.

However, the police managed to convince the Bajrang Dal men to end the protest. Meanwhile, the screening of the movie was also reportedly stopped in view of the security concerns, sources said.

Sharan Pumpwell, state convenor of Bajrang Dal, confirmed that the members of his outfit staged protest at the City Centre Mall, Forum Mall and Bharat Mall.

"We requested the multiplex representatives to stop screening the movie. It was the people of India who made Shah Rukh Khan a superstar and now he is speaking against India in the name of intolerance," he said.

Police said that it was a peaceful protest and nobody was arrested. Aggressive campaigns against Dilwale from Mangaluru have been reported on social networking sites.

Moon sighting for the start of the month of Ramazan, for end of fastings- Eidul Fitr, for the month of Hajj and Muharram:

The moon sighting is so easy. We the people of India and have Indian Standard Time all.over India.

When we can accept the moon sighting in Delhi and announcement from Delhi as it was during times of Radio and Doordarshan news, why can we not accept the sighting of moon in coastal region of Karnataka and in Kerala?

Let us bring about change for good.

Why is rest of Karnataka or India not joining for Eid with coastal region and kerala? At the time of Radio and Dorrdarshan only days, all of India used to wait for 8.00 pm news for updates of moon sighting. So why not accept the moon signing witnesses in Kerala or coastal region?

I request all Indians to accept the witnessing of Moon sighting in any area of India and start and end Fasting.

Bengaluru, Jan 28: The state government is set to allow investors who bought farmland for industrial and other purposes to sell it off if they fail to use it within seven years. The new buyers, however, must utilise the land parcel for the same purpose for which it was allotted.

An amendment bill in this regard will be tabled during the joint session of the assembly, which begins on February 17.

Currently, investors remain tied to unused parcels. Law and parliamentary affairs minister JC Madhuswamy said the amendment to Section 109 of the Karnataka Land Reforms Act, which deals with the purchase of farmland for non-agricultural purposes, would remove hurdles for disposal of such plots. “To prevent misuse of land, the bill makes it mandatory for the new buyer to utilise it for the purpose for which the land was purchased by the first investor,” he said.

The government will also table a bill which seeks to regulate the affairs of religious and educational trusts. It will empower the government to intervene in the affairs of the trusts when irregularities come to light.

“Currently, the government has no role to play when allegations of irregularities and mismanagement crop up against trustees. The bill seeks to address this,” Madhuswamy said. He clarified the government didn’t want to interfere in trusts’ affairs. But some issues, he added, were of concern: trustees illegally selling off the trust property.
