Mangaluru: Complex surgery saves woman’s leg from amputation

Mangaluru, Feb 3:  A team of doctors of Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute here has recently performed a successful surgery on a 20-year-old woman from Kannur in Mangaluru who was suffering from cancerous tumor on her left leg which recurred after initial surgery done elsewhere.

Addressing media persons on Wednesday, doctors of the hospital said that the only option in such situation was amputation (Removal of leg). The patient had visited multiple higher centers where the option given was amputation.

Under the leadership of Dr. Jalaluddin Akbar, Cancer Surgeon along with Dr. Imtiaz and Dr. Abhishek, Orthopedic Surgeon along with Dr. Vincent, Anaesthetist, performed a complex surgical procedure to removal recurrent cancerous tumor to save the limb using mega prosthesis has been done for the first time in India reported.

“Now, the lady can lead a normal life with minimal disability,” doctors said.

Thiruvananthapuram, May 29: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that fishing in Kerala coast and southeast Arabian Sea has been completely banned from Thursday midnight as the state is expected to receive rainfall early next month.

"India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that southwest monsoon will arrive in Kerala coast by the first week of June. The state will receive rainfall in the next five days. Fishing in Kerala coast and the southeast Arabian sea to be completely banned from midnight," Vijayan said.

On Thursday, the IMD announced that conditions are favourable in Kerala for the onset of the southwest monsoon on June 1.

"A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea from May 31 to June 4, 2020. In view of this, conditions are very likely to become favourable from June 1, 2020 for the onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala," the IMD said in its bulletin.

It also stated that the southwest monsoon has further advanced into some parts of Maldives-Comorin area, some more parts of south Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Andaman Sea and Andaman and the Nicobar Islands.

Bengaluru, April 6: The total number of positive cases in Karnataka climbed to 163 after 12 more cases were reported, state government officials said on Monday.

Out of the 12 new cases, three of them have a history of travelling to Delhi.

The tally includes four deaths and 18 people have recovered and discharged.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India crossed the 4,000 mark, mounting to 4,067, said Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday.

Bengaluru, May 12: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had promised to extend all co-operation for the safe and early return of the Karnataka ex-pats, living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), here on Tuesday.

He was speaking to the Karnataka ex-pats living in UAE, who had pleaded the chief minister to make arrangements for their return to the state.

Those who had spoken to the Chief Minister had informed that there is a large number of people, landed into a great difficulty ever since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and eager to return to their home state, Karnataka.
