Mangaluru: Complex surgery saves woman’s leg from amputation

Mangaluru, Feb 3:  A team of doctors of Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute here has recently performed a successful surgery on a 20-year-old woman from Kannur in Mangaluru who was suffering from cancerous tumor on her left leg which recurred after initial surgery done elsewhere.

Addressing media persons on Wednesday, doctors of the hospital said that the only option in such situation was amputation (Removal of leg). The patient had visited multiple higher centers where the option given was amputation.

Under the leadership of Dr. Jalaluddin Akbar, Cancer Surgeon along with Dr. Imtiaz and Dr. Abhishek, Orthopedic Surgeon along with Dr. Vincent, Anaesthetist, performed a complex surgical procedure to removal recurrent cancerous tumor to save the limb using mega prosthesis has been done for the first time in India reported.

“Now, the lady can lead a normal life with minimal disability,” doctors said.

Mangaluru, Jul 5: A veteran politician and former union minister has repeatedly tested positive for COVID-19 in the Dakshina Kannada.

The former minister, who resides in Bantwal taluk, is said to be asymptomatic.

His wife and children have also tested positive for the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, one of the kin of the former minister said that he is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru. "He is asymptomatic and doing well," he said.

Mangaluru, Apr 15: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh has written to her counterpart at Valsad to make food and accommodation arrangements for two persons from Puttur who are stranded at Ambergaon village in their district due to lockdown.

Valsad is a district near Gujarat-Maharashtra border.

Ashik Hussain and Mohammed Takeen Maril, have been stuck at the RTO check post of Ambergaon for the last 21 days. The duo have been staying in their car, without proper accommodation or food.

New Delhi, Feb 24: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting raids at more than 20 locations in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The latest raids are being carried out in connection with ISIS conspiracy cases.

More details are currently awaited regarding the cases.

Meanwhile, NIA had on February 15 filed a charge sheet against two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists before the agency special court, Jammu. The two terrorists are identified as Khalil Ahmad Kayani (34) and Mohammad Nazeem (23), both residents of Haveli Farwad Kahuta district in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The case is related to the arrest of the two accused near Nilkanth Nala, approximately 700 metres inside the Indian side of LoC, in Gulmarg Sector of Baramulla district.
