Mangaluru, Nov 14: Even six days after the abolishment of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, the coastal city of Mangaluru has failed to recover from the unexpected shock.

In fact, the demonetization move has affected pretty much every sphere of life — from getting provisions and eating out, to making routine payments such as rent and salaries to domestic help.

While making announcement of demonetization, the government has assured that banks would work on weekends too for exchange of notes. Ironically, on week days too the banks and ATMs are functioning partially thanks to scarcity of notes.

The government on Monday has extended the usage of existing Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 notes for select transactions till 24 November from the earlier deadline of 14 November.

This means that people can now use these notes at government hospitals, government-run cooperative shops, air-ticket counters, milk booths, petrol stations, international airports, to buy tickets at railway stations, to pay for medicines in government and private medical shops, to get cooking gas cylinders, and to pay court fees till 24 November.

However, thanks to the scarcity of change, the government's relaxation has not improved the situation in the city.

No change in bunks

Petrol bunks are accepting old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, but you can only fill up for amounts in increments of Rs 500. The reason is that the bunk employees don't have Rs 100 notes to return as change. So if you want to fill fuel for, say, Rs 200, chances are you won't get Rs 300 back.

Market Woes

The future for hundreds of vegetable, fruits and other household merchants, who supply daily needs to entire city is in quandary. "From Sunday onwards I have stopped the purchasing of goods and will resume when everything turns to normalcy," says worried vegetable merchant Peter D'Souza.

Abdul Salam, wholesale fruit merchant at the market shares that they have given goods in credit to regular customers. "Since all are transactions are done in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency, we have no other way out. For some we have given credit and asked our suppliers to wait for some days to clear their dues," he maintains.

Other merchants complain that they don't have enough change to tender with customers. "All customers are giving us Rs 2000 note. If they make business of Rs 200 or Rs 300, we have to give them change in Rs 100 notes. How can it be possible when bank themselves don't have Rs 100 notes," adds another lemon merchant.

Bengaluru, Jan 29: The Karnataka unit of BJP has urged the Centre and the State governments to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), accusing them of harbouring terrorist tendencies.

Addressing a press meet, N Ravi Kumar, state general secretary of the party, alleged that there was a nexus between the Congress, the PFI and the SDPI.

“Recent reports have exposed the links between the PFI and the Congress,” he said, accusing Congress leader Kapil Sibal of receiving huge funds from PFI to defend their cases in the Supreme Court.

He also accused the organisations as the ones responsible for the death of 23 Hindu activists in Karnataka. Such incidents have proven that both SDPI and PFI are dubious organisations, he said.

PFI is the first kind of organization which is doing community work in all the walks of life.

and providing the helping hands to all the Indian community doing marvelous job.

this is the first organization fighting against corrupt and injustice following the principle of our father of nation mahatma Gandhi’s.

the corrupt and injustice people in the society not ready to accept their policy and trying to stop the voices of justice to the society.

I wish PFI and its sub organizations will continue to support to the society and keep the good work so that people are with you.

RSS is the most active and first ever terrorist organisation in India and it should be banned first.    There is no proof of terrorist activities by SDPI and PFI.    BJP is afraid of these organisations as they give tought resistance to BJP and this is the reason why its planning to ban these organisations.    BJP is doing propoganda only.   Real thread for peace + harmoney in India by sanghis.   We should ban them first.

Bengaluru, Feb 4: A 33-year old woman techie allegedly stabbed her mother to death and made a murderous assault on her younger brother before fleeing their home here, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the woman fatally stabbed her mother using a knife and attacked the brother early on Monday.

The injured brother has been hospitalised here.

A search was on for the techie and the motive for her action under investigation, police said.

The woman, employed as a software engineer with a company here, earlier had told her mother and 30-year old brother that she has been transferred to Hyderabad and she may have to relocate.

The brother told police that in the early morning on Monday he saw his sister searching something desperately and offered to assist, which she refused.

She stabbed him and attacked with an iron rod before fleeing, her brother told police.

The body of the mother was found in another room in the house.

"We are still investigating the matter. We are not clear about the motive behind the murder," a police officer told media adding the woman was yet to be arrested.
