Mangaluru: St Anthony Ashram holds 'Christa Namana 2019'

Mangaluru, Dec 14: St Anthony’s Ashram Jeppu held ‘Christa Namana 2019’   a Christmas programme on 13th at St Anthony’s Ashram Jeppu.

Dr Sreevarma Heggade of Annapoorna Dasa, Mangalore was the chief guest. In his message he highlighted the value of ‘live and let live’ preached and practiced by Jesus. He appreciated the teachings of Jesus in ‘the sermon of the mount’ which advocate non-violence and winning over of enemies through love and forgiveness.

Prof Irfan  Abdulla Nurani of Al-Madina, Manjanady said that Jesus is an inspiration to many benevolent works carried out around the world today. He affirmed that the long service of 122 years by St Anthony Ashram Jeppu is certainly a witness to the self-less love preached by Jesus.

On this occasion of Christa Namana 2019  St Anthony Ashram felicitated the newly elected ward members to the Mangalore City Corporation. Mr Lancelot Pinto, MrsJacintha Vijay Alfred, Mr Naveen D‘Souza, Mr Abdul Rauf, MrVinay Raj, MrBharath Kumar S., MrShailesh B. Shetty were the members felicitated and thanked for their service to the city and specially to St Anthony Ashram Jeppu. MrsJacintha Alfred on behalf of the felicitated thanked the Ashram for the felicitation and assured help whenever required.

The other invited guests on the dais were Dr Julian Saldanha, R.M.O. Wenloc District  Hospital; MrKrishnaraj K, Executive Engineer MESCOM; MrGopalKrishanBhat, Traffic Inspector; MsMajula, Sub-Inspector; ShanthalaGatty, president block Congress women wing; MsVijayalaxmi, former Corporator were thanked heartily for their kind co-operation to the  Ashram and their service to the city of Mangalore.

Mr Vincent Fernades of ‘MogachiLahra’ fame and his team entertained the audience with melodious Christmas carols in Konkani, Tulu, Kannada, and English.

Fr Onil D’Souza the Director of St Anthony Ashram welcomed the guests. Fr Thrishan D’Souza the Asst Director proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Shainy D’Souza the compered the programme.

Fr Cyprian Pinto Parish of St Joseph Church, Vamanjoor; Fr Francis D’Souza, Spiritual Director St Joseph Seminary Jeppu; Fr Roshan D’Souza, Asst Director St Anthony Ashram; large number of Sisters and over five hundred people participated in the programme.

Mangaluru, May 13: Dakshina Kannada today recorded its fourth death due to novel coronavirus.

The victim, identified by number P-536, is a 58-year-old woman from Boloor area of Manglauru. She was tested covid-19 positive on April 30. 

A patient with TB meningitis, the woman had been treated and discharged from Mangaluru’s First Neuro Hospital, which has emerged as covid-19 hub of coastal Karnataka.

In hospital she had reportedly come in contact with patient No 501 who worked as a sweeper in the same hospital. 

With this death, the number of active covid-19 cases reduced to 16 in Dakshina Kannada. The district has so far reported 34 covid-19 cases including four deaths. 14 have been discharged.

Bengaluru, May 26: The Karnataka government has decided cancel summer vacation for undergraduate and post-graduate students and universities during the 2020-21 academic year in the wake of severe academic loss due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Keeping in mind the loss of academic days due to the lockdown to contain the pandemic, the Higher Education Department has decided to go in for ‘Zero Vacation’. 

The state government decided to cancel all holidays particularly the summer holidays after holding a series of meetings with the Vice Chancellors and other academicians from various parts of the state.

The decision was also communicated during the review meeting of the Higher Education Department held by CM Yediyurappa on Tuesday in Bengaluru.

Kasaragod, May 30: Karnataka origin IPS officer D Shilpa has been appointed the new Superintendent of Police of Kasargod district.

The 35-year-old 2016-batch IPS officer is the first woman SP of Kasaragod. 

Her appointment follows the sudden transfer of P S Sabu who was hitherto holding the post. He has now been appointed as SP of Alappuzha.

Shilpa has earlier served as ASP of Kasargod. She was also ASP of Kannur during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Shilpa was one of the three IPS officers assigned to Kasaragod with IG Vijay Sakhare during the first phase of covid lockdown.

A native of HSR Layout in Bengaluru, Shilpa holds a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering and a Masters Degree in Business Administration.
