Mangaluru votes for a better tomorrow in mock election

The citizens of Mangaluru voiced their needs in a mock election activity ‘Vote for Better Tomorrow’ conducted by APD Foundation in collaboration with Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd. The event was organized at the City Centre mall and near Milagres Bus Stop at Balmatta Road on Thursday, 10th May, 2018 and 238 people participated in the activity choosing what the city needs.

Participants were provided with a ballot box and a list of options displayed on a design similar to EVM. The voters had to write their choice number and drop the vote in the ballot box. Among the options provided by the organizers ‘Clean Drinking Water Supply’ for the city got the highest number of votes.

Out of the 238 votes polled, 58 were for Clean Drinking Water Supply and 50 votes were for Energy Efficient Public Transportation for the city. Systematically Scientific Drainage System, Integrated Waste Management Plan and Affordable Health Care System got 48, 46 and 36 votes respectively.

The citizens also were given a chance to write more options if they found it necessary. Better Traffic Control Systems and Measures to Reduce Pollution were among the top suggestions made by them. “The event was organized to raise public awareness of our duty to cast vote during elections. The event marked the end of a month long activities that was to ensure improved turnout voters in the city and local constituencies,” said Abdullah A. Rehman, Founder of APD Foundation.

Mangaluru, Mar 11: Nitte Education Trust is among the top 50 reputed institutions in the country selected by NITI Aayog for setting up Atal Incubation Centre under Union government's Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) scheme.

NITI Aayog has sanctioned Rs 9 Crore to Nitte Education Trust for setting up a full-fledged Incubation Centre at Nitte, of which Rs 2.5 crores has been received as first instalment according to a press release here on Wednesday.

Atal Incubation Centre- Nitte provides start-ups with valuable guidance, technological aid, access to investors, networking and facilitating a host of other services required for start-ups to survive and scale. Start-ups also receive direction through the robust chain of mentors who give sector-specific information and real-time practical guidance.

Bengaluru, May 10: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday accused the state government of not preparing proper guidelines to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border areas.

"No proper guidelines have been given to officials to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. From the last 45 days, many of these people have not got any relief nor are there any proper directions or guidelines from the state government," alleged Kumaraswamy.

He also accused the state government of cheating the people of Karnataka.

"Karnataka government is cheating people the same way it cheated with the flood compensation. The state government had announced lakhs of rupees as compensation to those who lost houses in the flood last year. But nobody has got the records or details as to how many people got benefited from it," he added.
Fifty-three more COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka on Sunday, the state government said.

The total number of cases in the state is at 847, including 405 discharged and 31 deaths so far, the bulletin said.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: Dr Mohammed Yusuf, chairperson of the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf, passed away at a private hospital in the city today following a brief illness. He was 74.

Dr Yusuf was an industrialist and was known for his philanthropic activities. 

A veterinarian, Dr Yusuf had quit the government job and set up business in Bengaluru and Dubai decades ago and has earned considerable success.

He was re-elected as Board of Auqaf chief in January this year. He had held the post more than once in the past. 

He will be buried at the graveyard near Masjid-e-Muzammil which was built by himself at Govindapura, source said.
