Market-cum-commercial complex to come up at Mallikatta

Mangaluru: If everything goes as expected a state-of-the-art market-cum-commercial complex will come up at Mallikatta in the heart of the city within a couple of years.

Mangaluru City South MLA J R Lobo and Mayor K Bhaskar Moily on Monday, March 26, laid the foundation stone for the multi-crore project proposed by the Mangaluru City Corporation.

The complex, to be built on 45 cents of land after demolishing existing market, will have a floor area of 75,112.98 sq ft. The multi-storey building will have lower and upper basements, lower and upper ground floors and three more floors.

According to K.S. Linge Gowda, Deputy Commissioner (Development) and Superintending Engineer (in-charge), parking will be provided in the lower and upper basements. It will be possible to park around 70 vehicles.

The upper ground floor will have a vegetable market, with 36 shops. The lower ground floor will house a non-vegetarian market with 28 shops. There will be shops and offices in the first, second and third floors.

He said that the existing shopkeepers will be temporarily shifted to the roadside opposite the market. Facilities will be created for about 35 such shops.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lobo said that the Cabinet has approved the project, and now the government has sanctioned Rs. 5 crore to it as first instalment. The total budget will go up to Rs. 16 crore after adding the Goods and Services Tax. The alternative temporary market will be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 60 lakh.

New Delhi, July 29: The government of India today announced Unlock 3.0, lifting of night curfew from August 1 and opening of yoga institutes and gymnasiums from August 5 while educational institutes will remain closed throughout August.

According to the Unlock 3.0 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the lockdown in containment zones will be extended until August 30. The new guidelines will be in effect from August 1.

The operation of Metro rail and international flights will remain suspended. Cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars, auditoriums, assembly halls and similar places will remain shut. Large gatherings are also prohibited.

Yoga institutes and gymnasiums will start operating from August 5 for which the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will be issuing Standard Operating Procedures. 

Independence Day celebrations will be held with social distancing norms in place.

Restrictions on the movement of individuals during the night (Night curfew between 10 PM and 5 AM) have been removed.

According to the order, states have been given powers to prohibit certain activities outside containment zones or impose such restrictions as deemed necessary based on their assessment of the situation.

"However, there shall be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods. No separate permission/approval/e-permit will be required for such movements," the order said. 

In the previous two Unlock guidelines, the government had substantially opened various activities.

Bengaluru, Jan 7: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday said the much-awaited cabinet expansion will take place in about a week to 10 days and that he wants to complete the exercise before his proposed visit to Davos to attend the World Economic Forum meet later this month.

"Cabinet expansion has to be done in a week or 8-10 days. There is also information that Amit Shah will be coming to Bengaluru on January 16 or 18. Before that I will go to Delhi and get things cleared and will expand the cabinet at the earliest," Mr Yediyurappa said.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, he said he wanted to complete the exercise before his Davos visit.

"I will make all efforts to expand the cabinet before that," he said.

With Mr Yediyurappa making it clear that 11 of the disqualified JDS-Congress MLAs who got re-elected in the December 5 bypolls on BJP tickets will be made ministers, lobbying has been on within the party for the remaining ministerial berths.

Currently, there are 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister, in the cabinet that has a sanctioned strength of 34.

Cabinet expansion will not be an easy task for the Chief Minister as he will have to strike a balance by accommodating the victorious disqualified legislators as promised and also make space for the old guards, upset at being "neglected" in the first round of the induction exercise.

He also has to give adequate representation to various castes and regions in his cabinet and also deal with the allocation of key portfolios.

The Chief Minister, who has indicated that the ministry expansion may take place any time after Sankranti, is likely to travel to Davos on January 20, according to sources.

BS Yediyurappa, along with Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Mansukh Mandaviya, as well as Chief Ministers Amarinder Singh, Kamal Nath, are expected to join over 100 Indian CEOs at Davos in Switzerland later this month for the WEF's 50th annual meeting, which will be attended by thousands from across the globe.

Mangaluru, Apr 13: City Commissioner of police P S Harsha on Monday warned people, not to use drones illegally for filming or any other purposes.

Speaking with this regard Harsha said on Monday ,''“We have noticed that persons are illegally using drones to film Mangaluru city. If this continues, we will not only seize the drone but will also take firm legal action against the person responsible. Because Mangaluru is a sensitive place with lots of vital installations.''

He further requested the media houses also not to hire drone services for filming or any other purposes.
