Mayawati attacks BJP, SP over communal violence

August 24, 2014

New Delhi, Aug 24: BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday accused BJP and SP of being "hand in glove" in fanning communal violence in Uttar Pradesh to further their political interests and said communal forces were becoming strong across the country.

She said while the situation in UP was "bad" under the rule of the Samajwadi Party, things have "worsened" after the BJP-led NDA took power at the Centre.mayavati

"We see that communal forces are gaining strength in the country. Several states have witnessed communal riots. Uttar Pradesh holds the number one spot. Samajwadi Party and BJP are hand in glove behind the communal violence in Uttar Pradesh. Peace had ended in the state the day SP came to power. But the moment BJP came to power at the Centre, the situation has worsened there," she told reporters

The BSP chief alleged that both SP and BJP were deliberately creating communal tension in UP for political gains.

She said that state governments as well as the Centre should take effective steps to check spread of communal tension in the country.

Responding to a question on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden Independence Day speech, she said it sounded more like an "election speech" aimed at the four states going to assembly polls.

"The Prime Minister said he is the pradhan sewak. He did not sound like a pradhan sewak. But it sounded like an election speech aimed at Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana," she said.

The former UP chief minister said though BJP has recently come to power, she has seen little being done usher in "aache din".

Responding to a report submitted to the Samajwadi Party by senior UP minister Shivpal Singh Yadav on Saharanpur riots, she said the "actual facts" are buried and the report has little meaning.

"BJP and SP are hand in glove. The report has not put forth the actual facts. It has little meaning. We do not accept the report," she said.

To a question on senior UP minister Mohd Azam Khan attacking is own government on law and order, she said it has no meaning as situation in UP has been bad from the day SP government took over.

"He is only attacking is government now. Perhaps he is being ignored by his party. This is perhaps the reason," she said.

Jun 5: Meerut Police on Thursday claimed that around 13,500 mobile phones in the country are running on the same IMEI, the number used to identify the device.

A case of fraud has been registered against the mobile phone manufacturing company and its service center, the police said.

The matter surfaced, after police personnel gave his mobile phone to the staff at cybercrime cell for examination, as the new phone was not working properly despite being repaired, Meerut SP (city) Akhilesh N Singh said.

The cyber cell found that around 13,500 other mobile phones are also running on the same International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) as that of the police personnel's phone, the superintendent of police said.

He said the matter is a serious security issue.

Prima facie it appears to be negligence on part of the mobile phone company and criminals can use it to their advantage, Singh said.

He said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law at a Medical police station and a team of experts has been called to look into the matter.

Lucknow, Feb 14: Uttar Pradesh doctor Kafeel Khan was on Friday booked under the National Security Act (NSA) over his alleged anti-CAA speech at Aligarh Muslim University on December 12, 2019.

The Uttar Pradesh slapped NSA on Kafeel Khan on Friday even as the doctor waited to be released from jail despite being granted bail on Monday in connection with his alleged inflammatory speech.

SP Crime Dr Arvind said that there were sufficient grounds to book the doctor under NSA.

The suspended pediatrician, Kafeel Khan, was arrested for allegedly delivering a controversial speech during Anti-CAA protests on December 12 at the Aligarh Muslim University or AMU. While he was granted bail on Monday, his family members claimed on Thursday that he was yet to be released.

Dr Kafeel Khan's brother Adeel Ahmed Khan had issued a statement saying that despite being granted bail Mathura jail authorities had not honoured the court's order.

Dr Kafeel Khan was arrested by the UP Special Task Force from Mumbai on January 29 for participating anti-CAA protest at AMU. A case was registered against him at the Civil Lines police station here for promoting enmity between different religions.

After his arrest in Mumbai, Dr Khan was brought to Aligarh, from where he was shifted to the district jail in neighbouring Mathura.

According to police, this was done as a precautionary measure in view of the anti-CAA protests on the AMU campus and at the Eidgah grounds in the old city. Police had said that the Dr Khan's presence in the Aligarh jail could have aggravated the law and order situation in the city.

The doctor was earlier arrested for his alleged role in the death of over 60 children in one week at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur in August 2017. Short supply of oxygen at the children's ward was blamed at that time for the deaths.

About two years later, a state government probe cleared Khan of all major charges, prompting him to seek an apology from the Yogi Adityanath government.

New Delhi, Jun 1: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday asked airlines to allot seats in flights in such a manner that middle seats are kept vacant to the extent possible.

However, if a flyer has been allotted the middle seat due to a high passenger load "then additional protective equipment like the wrap-around gown of the Ministry of Textile approved standards" must be provided to that passenger in addition to three-layered face mask and face shield, said the DGCA order, which has been accessed by news agency.

India resumed its domestic passenger flights from May 25 after a gap of two months due to the coronavirus-triggered lockdown. International commercial passenger flights continue to remain suspended in the country.
