According to Kalapet police, Sasikumar Bora (23), a first year MBA student hailing from Assam, hanged himself from a tree near his hostel room.

Bora, who was chatting with his friends last night, left for his room and was found hanging Friday morning. His friends informed the police that Bora used to play the Blue Whale game.

Kalapet police who checked his cell phone also confirmed that the youth was playing the game.

The body of Bora was sent to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute for an autopsy, and cops are waiting for a report.

His parents were informed about the tragedy and they are on their way to Puducherry, police said.

“We have begun investigations to check whether the death was due to his playing the Blue Whale game”, Superintendent of Police (East) S Venkatasamy said.

On Wednesday evening, a 19-year-old boy from Madurai hung himself inside his house, as a task of completing the last challenge of the deadly game. This was the first death reported in Tamil Nadu due to the game which has claimed many young lives in the country and around the world.

According to police sources, Vignesh (19), younger son of Jeyamani and Vanitha, was the resident of Kalaignar Nagar at Vilacheri in Madurai district. He was studying second-year B.Com in a private college in Thiruparankundram.

A day after the suicide, Madurai Superintendent of Police on Thursday made a startling revelation that they have identified over 75 people clandestinely playing the proscribed online killer game in the district.

Addressing a press meeting here, N Manivannan said that data from Vignesh’s phone revealed a WhatsApp group of 75 members, who were allegedly playing the game and initiating gullible people to follow suit.
