MCMS' first annual Total Mobile Golden Insignia Awards given away

Mangalore, August 11: The first annual Total Mobile Golden Insignia Awards 2011 of the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies (MCMS), St. Aloysius College, Mangalore was held on Thursday August 11.

Chief Guest of the event, Mr. Tharanath Shetty of Janashri Channel wished well for the budding journalists who were honoured during the ceremony.

The winners of the awards are as follows:

Best Anchor – Male won by Abhishek J Shetty. Presented by Fr Walter Andrade and Mr Mukesh from Total Mobiles.

Best Anchor – Female won by Sushmitha Kirodian. Presented by Raghu from V4 Media and HOD of Dept of Biotechnology Dr Smitha Hegde.

Best Innovation won by Namratha Sharma for the name Campus Eye. Presented by Ms Bhavya from the Dept of Journalism and Mr Kiran from E TV.

Best Feature Story won by Abhishek and Yathin for Dumping Yard. Presented by Ravi Posavanike from Times of India and Rev.Dr.Richard Rego, HOD, Dept of Mass Communication and Media Studies.

Best Episode won by Patterson Fernandes. Presented by Prof N D Shetty, Dept of Kannada and Mrs Violet Pereira from Manglorean.com.

Best Cameraperson won by Dinesh Nirawdekar. Presented by Ronald Pinto, Vice Principal Xavier Block and Mr Kiran from E TV.

Best Video Editor won by Yathin Moolya. Presented by Ms Loveena Lobo, HOD of MSW and Nanda Gopal Director of CIL.

Best Scriptwriter won by Almas Nazeer. Presented by Fr Francis Almeida, Campus Minister and Ronald Fernandes, Editor Deccan Herald.

Best Assignment Editor won by Petula Dias. Presented by Advocate Anita Shenoy and Sr Avia D'souza.

The awards have been instituted to celebrate the 50th weekly episode of Campus Eye, the indigenously produced student news bulletin of the Department of MCMS.

Bengaluru, May 26: Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah today held a video conference with Kannadiga businessmen in Saudi Arabia and paid heed to the woes of Saudi Kannadigas amidst covid-19 lockdown.

Sheikh Karnire, Director of Operations Expertise Contracting Co, Mohammad Mansoor, Chairman of Saara Group and President of OIC Bahrain, and Ismaeel, CEO of Realtech Industrial Services among others explained Mr Siddaramaiah the need to operate repatriation flights from Saudi Arabia to Mangaluru and Bengaluru. 

They said among the thousands of stranded Kannadigas in Saudi Arabia there are a large number of pregnant women, elderly people, patients who need immediate medical attention. 

They urged Siddaramaiah to exert pressure on the chief minister of Karnataka B S Yediyurappa and union ministers to arrange repatriation flights in the current schedule of Vande Bharat Mission itself. 

Siddaramaiah assured to take up the issue with the chief minister and other authorities concerned.

Bengaluru, Feb 13: UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid quit the Boris Johnson government as part of a cabinet reshuffle unfolding on Thursday and has been replaced by Rishi Sunak, reports said.

Indian-descent Sunak, 39, who is married to Akshata, the daughter of Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, was Chief Secretary to the Treasury since July 2019.

An analyst with Goldman Sachs before joining politics in 2014, Sunak, whose grandparents were from Punjab and emigrated to the UK from east Africa, is MP from Richmond (Yorkshire). He was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government in the Theresa May government.

Pakistani-descent Javid, who became the first Asian to become a Cabinet Minister when he was made Secretary of State of culture, Media and Sports in the David Cameron government in 2014 after stints as Economic Secretary to the Treasury (2012-13) and Financial Secretary (2013-14), was earlier the Home Secretary in the the Theresa May government.

He had then cleared absconding businessman Vijay Mallya's extradition to India in February last year following the decision by the Westminister Magistrates Court in December 2018.

Javid, who ran for Conservative Party leadership after May quit but lost to Boris Johnson, was made Chancellor by the later. In the reshuffle on Thursday, he was offered to retain his post if he fired all his advisors but declined and quit, the BBC reported.

Mangaluru, July 28: In an unexpected development, the government of Karnataka has transferred Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.

The development comes days after the IAS officer warned of legal action against those attacking cattle traders in the region.

Another IAS officer Dr Rajendra K V who was the CEO of Belagavi Zilla Panchayat, has been transferred and posted as the new Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

Dr Rajendra is a medical doctor graduated from Bapuji Medical College, Davangere. He had secured the 32nd rank in the civil services examination in 2013.

Sindhu B Rupesh had taken over as DK DC in September 2019.  Now, she is posted as the director, electronic delivery citizen services (EDCS), DP & AR (e governance) Bengaluru.
