Melwyn Pernal’s short story collection ‘Mazaar Ani Her Katha’ released

Mangaluru: A short story collection titled "Mazaar Ani Her Katha" comprising of 10 short stories written by Professor Melwyn Rajesh Castelino, well known as Melwyn Pernal in the Konkani literary world was released on October 14.

Rev. Nelson D’Souza of Gandhidham Province in Gujarat and Ronald J Sequiera , President of Konkani Writers and Artists Association jointly released the new short story collection. Konkani Film Producer Cyril Castelino, Asha Fernandes and Writers mother Smt Cosses Castelino were present on this occasion. 

Owner of Kittal Publications, H M Pernal briefed about the new short story collection to the select gathering. Writer, Television anchor Alwyn Dominic Danthy  compered the programme.

Melwyn Pernal, an M Tech graduate, is presently working as an assistant professor at Nitte Engineering College. Part of Mechanical Engineering faculty, Melwyn is aiming to complete his PhD shortly. A prolific writer, Melwyn has worked as editor of "Amcho Yuvak" and " Fatimacho Talo" news magazines. Plays written by him have found huge fan following in Canada, Dubai and other gulf countries, whenever enacted.

"Mazaar Ani Her Katha" is the fourth publication from Kittall Publications contains 10 short stories. Foreword for this collection is written by well known poet and story writer Wilson Kateel. Kittall Publications has published celebrated  poet Wilson Kateel’s “Encounter” collection of 100 poems,  which won prestigious Smt Vimala V Pai poetry book award of 2017 from World Konkani Centre recently. Apart from this Sikeram, Surathkal’s short story collection “ Gorjek Podath” and H. M. Pernal’s short story collection  “Beeg Ani Bigaath” were also published by Kittall Publications in past two years.

Bengaluru, April 3: Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illicit liquor.

The probe team also allegedly seized bottles worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation into the matter is underway, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police informed news agency.

Mangaluru, June 14: The management of Barakah International School and College has announced to waive off 33% of tuition fee in order to lessen the burden on parents who are undergoing financial crisis due to covid lockdown. 

This decision was taken after a series of virtual meetings with the Managing Director, Academic Director, Principal, Manager and PRO.

“While the school needs to continue to meet all the commitments and responsibilities towards the staff salaries, software, networking, etc, we fully understand that in the prevailing circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, job loss, reduction in salaries, general hardships of the self-employed businesses and the slowdown in the economy,” sated a release issued by the school.

“We would support our parent fraternity pro-actively and at the same time continue to meet the high-quality standards of our teaching- learning process and infrastructure so it has been decided that 1/3 of the tuition fee to be waived off for 2020-21,” the release said.

Tumakuru, Jun 20: An SSLC student of Siddaganga Mutt here was admitted to the isolation ward of the district hospital on Saturday after he showed Covid-19 symptoms.

Health officials said that the student, a native of the Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, had returned to the Mutt via Raichur on June 15 for writing the SSLC examination scheduled to begin on June 25.

After he was admitted to the hospital the Health Department Officials kept three of his roommates under quarantine. Throat swab sample of the student has also been sent for testing.
