#MeToo: Court rejects Sruthi’s plea to dismiss Arjun Sarja’s defamation case

Bengaluru, Aug 24: The City Civil Court here has dismissed Sandalwood actress Sruthi Hariharan’s petition seeking to quash the defamation proceedings filed against her by actor Arjun Sarja in the #MeToo case.

Sruthi had submitted to the court that the case was registered by Arjun Sarja’s nephew without any GPO (General Power of Attorney) and hence the case should be dropped.

Hearing the petition, the Civil Court judge Suvarna Mirji maintained that the legal error can be corrected.

“Because of this the entire case cannot be dropped and the interim application has been rejected,” the judge ordered.

In October 2018, at the height of the MeToo controversy, Sruthi had alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Arjun Sarja during the shooting of Kannada movie ‘Vismaya’.

Following her allegations, Arjun Sarja had filed a defamation suit of Rs 5 crore at the Bengaluru City Civil Court through his nephew and Sandalwood actor Dhruva Sarja. Sruthi had also lodged a complaint against Arjun Sarja in Cubbon Park police station.

Dubai bound passenger held at Mangaluru Air6, foreign currency of Rs 5 lakh seized

Mangaluru, Jan 11: CISF officials detained a passenger at Mangaluru International Airport here and seized from him currencies of foreign countries worth about Rs five lakh here on Saturday.

Official sources said that the passenger, identified as Shahul Hameed Theruvath, was supposed to take the Spice jet flight SG 059 for Dubai.

During the X BIS screening process, CISF officials noticed some suspicious image in Shahul’s hand baggage.

The thorough check of bag revealed foreign currencies of various countries worth Rs 5.48 lakh. The seized currencies were 76 US dollars of 100 denomination, Chinese Yuan, Malaysian Ringgits and Turkish Lira of smaller denomination. The currencies that were in his possession did not have any legal permission.

The personnel handed over the foreign currency recovered and the passenger to Customs officials for further inquiry.

Mangaluru | Miscreants pour kerosene on 200kg beef, thrash driver after waylaying vehicle

Mangaluru, June 21: A gang of miscreants intercepted a goods auto-rickshaw which was legally transporting beef from an abattoir to market and attacked its driver in heart of the city this morning.

The attack comes exactly a week after a gang of Bajrang Dal miscreants thrashed a cattle trader at Urwa while legally transporting four buffalos to Kudroli abattoir on June 13.

Today, a person identified as Abdul Rasheed was transporting around 200 kilograms of beef from Kudroli abattoir to Kankanady market.

Meanwhile, miscreants began to chase beef laden vehicle and managed to waylay it near Highland Hospital. They thrashed Abdul Rasheed and poured kerosene on the beef besides damaging the vehicle.

The miscreants fled in their car and motorbikes after passersby began to gather.

Dear DC Dr. Harsha, we want to know if you will take strict action on these anti nationals / rowdis / day robbers / terrorists who ransacked auto + beaten the auto driwer and stolen Rs. 10,000 from him though he was legally transporting the meat. They same terrorists are involved in transporting live animals to beef export houses in Gujrat owned by Brahmins / Jains. Will you be loyal to your duty and promise. We will see how you will handle the issue failing which you will lose our respect and we will consider you as a dramabaz and phenku. You should follow the law and treat everyone equally. There should not be any pity on goondas/ terrorists belonging to sangh parivar. The terrorists who thrashed the auto driver and damaged the auto and burnt the meat by pouring kerosene are not human beings and should be treated as anti nationals + terrorists. We hope you will discharge your duty as per the oath taken by you while accepting your post.

Covid-19: Mangaluru cops book man over social media post

Mangaluru, Apr 18: A case has been registered against a man for spreading communal hatred by sharing objectionable and sensitive posts on social media, Commissioner of Police Harsha said here on Saturday.

In Twitter Mr Harsha wrote, ” We have registered a case against a person claiming himself as Vishwa, Mangalore for making Statements promoting enmity and hatred between communities on social media with crime number 46/20 at the south police station under 505 IPC.”

He further warned, “We will not spare anyone trying to disturb communal harmony in the district.”
