Over 930 children to get UAE citizenship

Abu Dhabi, April 7: The Commission tasked with the implementation of the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the naturalisation of children born to Emirati mothers, has submitted a list of children eligible for UAE citizenship when they attain the age of 18.

The list containing 930 names will pave way for issuing orders for their naturalisation as per the rules and regulations prevailing in the country.


The Commision had ratified the list submitted earlier by the Ministry of Interior at a meeting held at the Presidential Palace. The meeting chaired by the Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Commission Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, the Supreme Council for National Security, National Security Authority and the Ministry of Interior.


The Commision had assigned the Interior Ministry to prepare the list of various segments and submit the final list of eligible persons. The list is presented to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, which will submit its recommendations to HH the President for issuing decrees for naturalisation.


Earlier in February, Shaikh Khalifa had issued federal decrees granting citizenship to 1117 eligible children born to Emirati mothers as per the Presidential Ordinance in this regard.

Dubai, Apr 26: Saudi Arabia reported 1223 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 17522, the Ministry of Health announced on Sunday (April 26).

Meanwhile, the ministry reported 142 recoveries today, with total recoveries in the kingdom at 2357. There are 115 cases in intensive care.

The ministry also confirmed 3 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in the kingdom to 139.

Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz has ordered the partial lifting of a curfew imposed due to the new coronavirus across the country while keeping a 24-hour lockdown in the holy city of Mecca, the Saudi news agency SPA reported Sunday. The partial lifting of the restriction started Sunday from 9am until 5pm and will continue until May 14, the agency added.

Dubai, Jul 10: Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan has appointed Dina Amin as CEO of the Visual Arts Commission.

She will take the lead in implementing the ministry’s vision and directions in promoting and developing visual arts in the Kingdom and empowering practitioners in the field.

Amin is a leading Saudi specialist in visual arts and the international contemporary art field. She gained a bachelor’s degree in art history and architecture from Wellesley College, in the US, and also attended a collaborative program in architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

During her career, spanning more than two decades, she has held senior positions in prominent international arts companies, including most recently Phillips, a global auction house for art, design, watches, jewels, and more.

She has also worked at Christie’s, one of the world’s most famous auction houses, employed in senior roles at the company’s international offices including New York, Dubai, and London.

The Visual Arts Commission is one of 11 new cultural bodies recently launched by the Ministry of Culture in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 reform plan to manage the empowerment and development of the Kingdom’s cultural sector. The commission will be responsible for managing and developing the visual arts sector to help achieve the ministry’s goals.

Dubai, May 10: Kuwait will enact a "total curfew" from 4pm (1300 GMT) on Sunday through to May 30 to help to curb the spread of the new coronavirus, the Information Ministry said on Twitter on Friday.

Further details of the curfew will be announced soon, it said.

Kuwait on April 20 expanded a nationwide curfew to 16 hours a day, from 4pm to 8am, and extended a suspension of work in the public sector, including government ministries, until May 31.

On Friday the Gulf state announced 641 new coronavirus cases and three deaths, bringing its total number of confirmed cases to 7,208, with 47 deaths.
