Jeddah, Jun 22: There is a possibility that the July 3 amnesty deadline for undocumented and illegal workers to correct their status will be extended, Deputy Chairman of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Mazen Batterjee said here on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest at the 3rd Job Fair organized by the Consulate General of Pakistan, Batterjee said the JCCI was in contact with consulates and realized the difficulties faced by them in providing services within the stipulated time.
He said he spoke to the labor minister and apprised him of the anxiety among expatriate workers.
"We will provide all possible assistance to Pakistani workers to change sponsorship and those who want to leave on final exit would be treated honorably," Batterjee said. He assured that all those who have registered with the consulate would be not be considered violators even after the end of amnesty period.
Consul General Aftab Khokher highlighted the efforts of the JCCI in helping expatriate workers in the regularization process.
Faisal Bataweel from the JCCI was also present on the occasion. More than 40 companies and 2,000 expatriates attended the fair.
