Riyadh, Jul 8: The Directorate General of Passports will switch over to online passport services for firms with 100 or less employees from Sept. 7 (Dhul Qaada 1).
Col. Khaled Al-Saikhan, Director of IT Department at the Directorate, said that all passport offices across the Kingdom will stop issuing or renewing residency permits (iqama) or issuing or canceling exit and re-entry visas directly from any of the branches.
“The Directorate has taken this measure in order to facilitate Saudis and foreigners to complete these procedures by taking advantage of its online service called Abshir,” he said, urging owners of firms to complete their online registration procedures as soon as possible.
Addressing a press conference at the Directorate on Sunday, Al-Saikhan said that there are 1.2 million firms with 100 or less workers in the Kingdom. “This constitutes 85 percent of total firms. There are 7,500 companies with more than 100 workers.”
He said that out of 830,000 people or firms that registered with Abshir, only 413,000 have activated the service. “The Directorate will launch two more e-services within the coming two weeks,” he added.
