2 million faithful seek God’s blessings in Grand Mosque

Grand_MosqueMakkah, Aug 6: Two million worshippers spent the 27th night of the holy month of Ramadan in the Grand Mosque seeking God's blessings. High security and integrated services contributed to a smooth flow of movement among worshippers filing in and out of the Grand Mosque.

Security forces were deployed for crowd management, in addition to a special emergency force, the security force for Haj and Umrah and the security force responsible for training police staff. In addition, 10 government agencies extended support to these forces by providing health and other services to worshippers.

“With the beginning of the 27th of Ramadan, the third stage of the crowd management plan at the Grand Mosque was successfully implemented to control and manage the huge influx of people entering the Grand Mosque and its courtyards,” said Brig. Saad Al-Khlaiwi, deputy commander of Haj forces and director of Haj Training Centers.

Col. Saeed Salem Al-Qarni, director of security patrols in Makkah, said about 300 security personnel were patrolling the areas and helping other agencies streamline the movement of pilgrims.

Brig. Khalaf Al-Mutrafi, director general of Civil Defense in Makkah, said that Civil Defense forces exercised a high degree of efficiency during this holy night. “The number of staff was increased to meet the stiff increase in the number of pilgrims and visitors,” Al-Mutrafi said, adding that the situation required further precautionary measures to maintain order and minimize hazards as much as possible for the safety of people there. “It is a blessing that all worshippers performed the holy rituals safely and with ease,” he added.

Yahiya Al-Zahrani, commander of the Grand Mosque force, said that although the premises of the Grand Mosque, the roofs, the first floor, the corridors and the courts surrounding the mosque reached maximum capacity, worshippers performed their prayers and the holy rituals comfortably. “The implementation of the plan of this night in particular greatly contributed to the smooth streamlining of people,” he added.

“The movement of worshippers inside and outside the Grand Mosque was being monitored by 750 display screens and more than 1,000 digital cameras,” Al-Zahrani said, adding that a special security force was dedicated to safeguarding the Al-Mataf Bridge.

Brig. Gen. Abdulrahman Al-Muqbil, director-general of the traffic department, said that more than 4,000 security men, including 2,500 police trainees and 1,500 members of the General Directorate of Traffic, as well as the traffic department staff in Makkah, implemented the traffic plan for the night. “This greatly contributed to the smooth flow of crowds within the holy city,” he said, adding that they were deployed in the central area, shopping centers, streets and squares.

Abu Dhabi, Jun 17: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has allowed students still enrolled in universities overseas to obtain exceptions to attendance policies at their respective academic institutions in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the ministry said that the move stems from its keenness to ensure the continuity of education for those students and to maintain effective channels of communication with them.

Students' applications for exceptions to academic attendance in universities due to Covid-19 should be submitted following the end of the academic year, and not after the academic semester, via the following email: [email protected].

In their email, students have to explain the reasons for the required exceptions and should include an official message from the university concerned.

Scholarship approval issued by the Ministry of Education for studying abroad should also be attached.

The student's score reports for the academic years spent in the host countries and the duration of each academic year should also be attached, in addition to an entry and exit report of the student from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship.

Expatriate workers who fail to abide by the coronavirus protocols in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia may face deportation, according to media reports.

“Individuals who fail to abide by preventive measures, including wearing medical or cloth face masks, failing to observe social distancing and refusing to have their temperatures taken, will be fined SR1,000. The fine will be doubled if the violation is repeated. Residents will be deported after paying the fines,” Okaz newspaper said.

Authorities called on people to report offenders by dialling the toll free number 999, except for the holy city of Makka, where the toll free number is 911.

As per the newly-revised Saudi protocols, social gatherings such as mourning or celebration events that take place inside homes, rest houses or farms, are allowed, but attendants should not exceed 50 persons.

The private sector is also required to adhere to precautionary measures: providing their staff with disinfectants and sanitisers, taking the temperatures of both staff and customers at the entrances of shopping malls.

Other measures include sterilising shopping trolleys and baskets after each use, sanitising facilities and surfaces, closing children’s play areas and fitting rooms in shopping malls and ready-wear outlets.

Authorities highlighted the need for all individuals and entities to abide by health safety rules, social-distancing protocol and the new guidelines set for social gatherings.

Dubai, Apr 16: Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO), unveiled a series of outdoor ads that form part of its new campaign to encourage the community to stay home.

Featuring the slogan 'For My Sake #StayHome for Us', the campaign depicts stunning artwork developed in collaboration with Emirati artist Maitha Demithan. The ads have been displayed on billboards, lamp posts and digital screens across Dubai.

The campaign reinforces the importance of staying at home in line with the strict restrictions on movement put in place by Dubai's Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management as part of intensified measures to combat Covid-19.

Nehal Badri, Director of Brand Dubai, said: "The outdoor campaign, displayed in prominent locations across Dubai, was designed to illustrate the importance of staying at home during the current sensitive period. Using Maitha Demithan's stunning creative artwork, we sought to send out a clear message to the community that staying at home is vital to safeguard the wellbeing of our loved ones. 

This project is one of a series of initiatives launched in collaboration with UAE-based artists to raise awareness about the need to unite efforts to protect vulnerable people from the risk of infection."

Emirati artist Maitha Demithan said: "It has been a privilege for me to work on this project and an honour to serve my country through my artworks. The three portraits featured in the campaign create a triptych that represents the people who are the most vulnerable to being infected by the virus. During such difficult times, art can play a crucial role in raising awareness on how to stay safe, but most importantly it can keep everyone inspired. I encourage all my fellow artists and the creative community to continue practicing social distancing and stay connected by using their creativity and innovation to raise awareness during this period."

Brand Dubai partnered with several media outlets, including Media 24/7, Arabian Outdoor Media and Hypermedia to launch the outdoor ads. The ads are displayed on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai Marina.
