Mishel Shaji Varghese died due to drowning: Post mortem

Kochi, Mar 15: The post mortem results of the death of 18 year old Mishel Shaji Varghese which led to the huge outpour and backlash from politicians and social media users after her family debated on the version police reports saying the girl suicided, proves that the girl died due to drowning.

The post mortem results prepared by Dr Meena KS, Professor and HOD, Department of Forensic Medicine, Government College Ernakulam does not show any signs of sexual assault that occurred, reports TheNewsMinute.

The post mortem results also mentioned that her lungs and brains were filled with fluid and blood stained fluid was seen at nose and mouth.

Hair and nail samples have been send for DNA verification along with her blood, viscera, vaginal swabs and smears.

Meanwhile, police have arrested 26 year old Cronin who repeatedly called Mishel and compelled her to enter into a relationship with him. Cronin, a Piravam native, currently residing in Chhattisgarh, works as a junior general manager in a private firm.

However, police claim that the two of them were in a relation and that Mishel wanted to stop and was not keen to take it forward but Cronin was not ready to agree with Mishel and that her decision angered him.

But Mishel’s father disagrees to the version of police saying, “Police are saying that he is our distant relative and that they were almost set to get married. I don’t know who this man is.”

But CCTV footages from Kaloor Church shows the girl entering the church premises and leaving the same while the footage also shows two men on a bike seemingly following the girl.

Though investigations were advancing, Mishel’s family strongly believes that their daughter will not suicide.

Meanwhile, Malayalam actors Kunchacko Boban, Unni Mukundan, Nivin Pauly, Tovino Thomas have raised their voice demanding the police to wake up and give justice to Mishel and her parents. The #JusticeForMishel hashtag has been trending on social media since by Sunday evening.

Mishel, hailing from Elanji was an aspiring Chartered Accountant who was residing in a hostel in Kacheripady while attending classes for the qualifying exam at a coaching centre at Palarivattom. Though Mishel heads home for the weekend, the week of her death she stayed back in the hostel as her exams were round the corner.Mishel

Kanpur, Jul 8: The Special Task Force (STF) shot dead Amar Dubey in an encounter in Maudaha on Wednesday morning. Amar, a right hand man of gangster Vikas Dubey, who shot dead eight police personnel on Friday last, figured prominently in the list of wanted persons released by the Kanpur police on Tuesday.

He was a named accused in the massacre.

According to STF sources, the police team had received a tip off about Amar's presence in the district and when they tried to close in on him, the criminal opened fire on them, He was killed in retaliatory firing around 6.30.a.m,

Amar was reportedly heading towards the house of one of his relatives in Maudaha area.

"We asked him to surrender but he opened fire at us and was killed when we returned the fire," said an STF official.

Earlier, he had been hiding in Faridabad but moved out after police pressure increased there.

Amar Dubey was a trusted accomplice of Vikas Dubey and the police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on him after the Kanpur massacre.

Incidentally, reports claim that Vikas Dubey was also seen at a hotel in Faridabad on Tuesday night but fled before the police could close in on him.

New Delhi, Apr 14: A 35-year-old man has been booked by the police for refusing to eat food at a quarantine centre on the ground that it had been cooked by a Dalit.

Reports said Siraj Ahmad, a native of Bhujouli Khurd village under Khadda police station in Kushinagar district, had returned from Delhi on March 29, and was staying at the quarantine centre at the village primary school along with other four people.

On Friday, village head, Lilawati Devi, in absence of the cook, prepared food in the quarantine centre for all the five people but Siraj refused to eat it.

Police, after conducting investigation, registered a FIR against him under the SC/ST Act on Monday.

The village head had lodged a written complaint with the police on Friday and also informed sub-divisional magistrate Desh Deepak Singh and block development officer Ramakant.

SHO Khadda police station, R.K. Yadav said that a case against Siraj was registered under the SC/ST Act.

Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, Vijay Dubey, the local BJP MLA, went to the house of village head and asked her to serve him food cooked by her.

"Untouchability is a social evil that cannot be tolerated at any cost," he said.

Cuttack, Jan 16: At least 15 passengers were injured as five coaches of the Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Lokmanya Tilak Express derailed and three more were displaced after colliding with a goods train amid heavy fog near Cuttack in Odisha on Thursday, railway officials said.

Railway officials had earlier said that 25 passengers were injured in the incident but later officers who reached the site reported that four passengers were found to have suffered major injuries and 11 had received minor injuries.

Passengers with major injuries have been sent to Cuttack Medical College. All passengers are stated to be out of danger.

Officials said the accident happened when the passenger train hit the guard van of a good train around 7 am between Salagaon and Nergundi stations.

The officials said there was heavy fog at the site but it was not clear what led to the accident. The speedometer of both the trains have been seized for inquiry, East Coast Railway Spokesperson J P Mishra said.

Buses have been arranged for all remaining passengers to move towards their destination.

Cuttack is around 10-12 km away and Bhubaneswar(Terminating station) is 35 km.

The accident disrupted train services in the area.

Five trains have been affected due to the accident where restoration work in underway. These include the Bhubaneswar-Mumbai LTT SF Express, the Puri-Rourkela Express, Dhanbad-Bhubaneshwar Rajyarani Express which have all been diverted via Naraj.

"East Coast Railway acknowledges with deep gratitude help of nearby locals and villagers who have displayed great humanitarian values and come to the rescue of injured passengers," Mishra said.
