MMA outstanding manager award for Sadananda Shetty

Managluru, Nov 17: The Mangalore Management Association will confer the MMA Outstanding Manager Award to Shree Devi Educational Institutions Chairman A Sadananda Shetty.

Briefing reporters here, president Marcel Monteiro said that the award will be given away at Ocean Pearl in Mangaluru on November 23. Shetty is a self-made entrepreneur who has excelled as an educationist. 

He has been instrumental in promoting sports activities in the district. He is the Karnataka state president of Powerlifting Federation and vice president of Karnataka State Association of Shuttle Badminton, Basketball and Kabaddi.

The award will be conferred by Mangalore University VC Prof K Byrappa and Hampi Kannada University former VC Dr B A Viveka Rai.

Madikeri, Jun 9: A rare Rurk’s Ristella Skink was found by some wildlife enthusiasts on their way to Madapur in Kodagu district.

Ristella Rurkii, commonly known as Rurk’s Ristella, is a species of skink endemic to the Western Ghats of Southern India. It is a small, insectivorous, diurnal skink found in Shola grasslands and rain forests of hills ranges in parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The specific name, rurkii, is in honour of “Dr Rurk” who collected the type specimen in the Annamalai Hills, High Ranges, Travancore, and the Palani Hills, of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It is endemic to rainforests South of Palghat Gap.

Mandya, Apr 3: Following the lock down in the country, people habit ventured into Liquor bottles worth several lakhs of rupees have been stolen at two places in the district.

Miscreants targeted a wine store at Chikka Mandya on the outskirts of the town in the early hours and also made away with the stock from a wine store near Hadly Circle in Malavalli town late night on Thursday. The incidents came to light on Friday.

A window was broken open at Chikka Mandya store and a wall was drilled at Malavalli store to take away the cartons, the police said.

Bengaluru, April 3: Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illicit liquor.

The probe team also allegedly seized bottles worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation into the matter is underway, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police informed news agency.

More details in this regard are awaited.
