Modi, Shah likely to address rallies in Udupi, Mangaluru, Uttara Kannada ahead of 2018 polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party supremo Amit shah are likely to address a really each in all three coastal districts of Karnataka as part of saffron party’s campaign for 2018 assembly polls in the state.

The state BJP core committee is learnt to have decided to send a proposal requesting Mr Modi address two to three rallies in each of the seven regions of the state during February-March next year.

Political parties usually divide the state into seven zones: Coastal Karnataka, Hyderabad-Karnataka, Mumbai-Karnataka, Malnad, Central Karnataka, Old Mysuru and Bengaluru.

BJP believes that Mr Modi and Mr Shah can still attract voters in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts that witnessed several communal incidents in recent months.

Mr Shah will pay a day-long visit to Bengaluru on December 31 to review the preparedness of the state unit of the party for the Assembly polls.

Briefing reporters after the core committee meeting of the party on Tuesday, BJP general secretary Aravind Limbavali said Shah, among others, will review a recent initiative of the BJP wherein legislators and MPs are given responsibility not only to look after his or her constituency but one more allotted by the party.

He will also review the progress of the Nava Karnataka Nirmana Parivarthan Yatra which has travelled 170 Assembly constituencies.

Bengaluru, Mar 22: People here stayed at their homes due to Janata Curfew on Sunday amid the coronavirus scare.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Thursday urged people to stay at their homes as a precautionary measure against the spread of coronavirus.

"In such difficult times, all Indians are supporting the cause. We accept and obey the Prime Minister's orders wholeheartedly as it is about how we protect ourselves and keep our children safe from this disease," said Shashikant Varma, a resident of Bengaluru.

"We hope the situation gets better at earliest and everyone gets rid of the virus," Varma added.
"All the shops have been closed.Everyone is at their homes to avoid getting infected from this deadly virus," said Harish Niwasi, another resident.

"Today is PMs Janata Curfew and so we all are at home. I appeal to all that by staying at home we can save each other from the deadly virus. We thank the PM for guiding us at such difficult times," said Tulsi Ram Varma.

The Janata curfew which began at 7 am today will come to an end at 9 pm.

Till now, the total number of positive coronavirus cases in Karnataka is 15 out of which one person has been cured and one death has taken place in the state, according to the Health Ministry.

The Karanataka Health Department on Saturday confirmed five new coronavirus cases in the state, taking the total count to 20.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), till now there are 341 positive cases of coronavirus in the country.

Bengaluru, Feb 6: Karnataka government has launched an aggressive awareness campaign against the novel coronavirus across the state with a special focus on its bordering areas in wake of the three confirmed cases of the deadly pathogen in neighbouring Kerala.

According to Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey, "All necessary information on the virus, its symptoms and precautions are being announced at public places like bus stops via radio from time to time."

“A video regarding the same is also being played in 500 cinema halls, advising masses to take precautions," he said.

Udupi, Jun 27: The Indian Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre have sounded Orange alert in coastal Karnataka as there is all possibility of heavy rain lashing the region for the next three days from Saturday.

According to the forecast, the district may get 100 mm to 115 mm rainfall. The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has given instructions on taking precautions in the district.

All officers of district and taluk-levels have been told to compulsorily remain in the central position. The citizens should take care not to venture into rivers or the sea. They should also stay away from electricity poles, buildings, and trees, which might prove dangerous, and take shelter in safer places.
