Dammam: “I was meticulously supported by the dedicated team of Jam’iyyatul Falah Dammam Unit, which allowed me to make a beautiful transit to all the activities of the organisation smoothly and efficiently,” said Mohammad Wahid, the re-elected president of JF Dammam unit.

Delivering the presidential address at the 27th annual general body meeting on June 5 at Classic Restaurant in Al-Khobar, he said that the the destination of success in the term 2014-2015 was splendidly strengthened by all the JF well-wishers, donors and sponsors.

The master of the ceremony Javed Sayed opened the meeting with Islamic greetings and invited the chief guests Mohammad Muzzaffar (Financial Controller of Azmeel Group), Mohammad Farook (Ex-NRCC Ameer) and Mohammad Abdullah Tandal to the dais.

The meeting commenced with the recitation of holy Quran by Mohammad Ishaq and he enlightened the importance of charity in Islam and emphasized the audience to come forward and join JF and extend support to help the needy in the community for its betterment. Organizing Secretary Suneer Ahmed had welcomed all the members and guests in his welcome speech.

The annual report for the term 2014-2015 was presented by the General Secretary Sajid Hussain. First he briefed about Jam’iyyatul Falah to the audience, which came into existence in 1988. The first and foremost priority of Jam’iyyatul Falah is given to education, spreading literacy and all round development of the less privileged families in the community. JF also provides scholarships under different schemes to the needy students in both the Districts. JF frequently organize the Medical camps, awareness of healthcare, health camps, eye camps and special medical check-up (including ladies by lady doctors) in Mangalore & Udupi. JF also provides Dialysis medical treatment for poor Kidney patients. Jam’iyyatul Falah’s awareness program in the Districts was distinguished with ‘BEST NGO’ award by the Karnataka State Government.

Treasurer Rashid Vardara presented the annual financial reports of Dammam Unit for the Year 2014-2015. This mainly highlighted the financial support given to various programs such as distribution of Ramadan Kit, Zakat, Fitra, Construction support to JF School in Adkere Padav, Education for needy students, scholarship for students who are studying in higher schools and colleges.

Mohammad Muzzaffer, the chief guest had lauded the activities of JF and thanked all the members for their contributions towards the betterment of the community.

The certificates of appreciation and mementos were awarded to the members to show the appreciation for their enormous support rendered to JF Dammam Unit during the term 2014-2015.

1. “Outstanding 100% Attendance” was awarded to five members for their regular & 100% attendance during the term 2014-2015 (1) Shahul Hameed (2) Sheikh Nizamuddin (3) Rashid Vardara (4) Javed Sayed and (5) Abdul Munaf.
2. “Most Promising Member” was awarded to Javed Sayed.
3. “A Special Honor” was awarded to Sheikh Nizamuddin.
4. “Event Management” was awarded to Abdul Munaf.
5. “Best Supportive Team” was awarded to (1) Mrs. & Mr. Abdul Rashid Vittal (2) Mrs. & Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed and (3) Mrs. & Mr. Abdul Rashid Vardara.
6. “President’s Choice Award” was awarded to Ameen Shaikh.
7. “Outstanding Support to Dammam Unit” was awarded to Ahmed Abbas.
8. “Committee Member of the Year” was awarded to Sajid Hussain.
9. “Committed Member of the Year” was awarded to Mohammad Shareef Hassan.
10. “Best Supporter for Unit” was awarded to (1) Mahmood Saad (2) Adnan Karkala and (3) Suneer Ahmed)
11. “Special Appreciation” was awarded to Sadiq Ahmed.
12. The prestigious award of Dammam Unit “Man of the Year” was awarded to Shahul Hameed.

Sadiq Ahmed had dissolved the present committee and the Election Officers Mohammad Farook and Mohammad Mubeen took the dais to conduct the election. The new committee of 50 members was formed for the Term 2015-2016. The office bearers were unanimously elected by the managing committee.

Re-elected president, Mohammed Wahid had addressed the new committee and thanked all the members for showing confidence in him. Taking into consideration the support from the new and the outgoing committee, he assured to exhibit his role as President with better productivity than the last term with the ‘Vision of Success and Maximum Achievement’.

The senior-most member of Jam’iyyatul Falah Shahul Hameed took the opportunity to encourage the New Committee to work with commitment, devotion, hard-work and determination. Jam’iyyatul Falah is growing day by day and new members should join hands to build a better community back home, he said.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Junaid Shiekh and on behalf of JF Dammam Unit, had expressed the gratitude to all the members and guests for their kind presence and congratulated the new committee for their success in accomplishing all the future assignments of Jam’iyyatul Falah.

Mangaluru, May 22: An elderly cardiac patient from Dakshina Kannada, who was stranded in Saudi Arabia due to covid-19 lock-down, has finally reached his homeland thanks to the timely intervention by Humanity Forum Jubail and Indian Social Forum.

The elderly man hailing from Kadaba area of Dakshina Kannada was admitted to a hospital in Madinah. However, his condition continued to worsen due to lack of proper treatment. The efforts by his family members to bring him back home had not yielded results.

Meanwhile, one of the relatives of the patient, Ansari Suratkal, who happens to be a DKSC activist, brought the issue to the notice of the Karnataka unit of the Indian Social Forum in Dammam. ISF contacted Humanity Forum president Zakariya Jokatte, who helped the patient to speak directly union minister D V Sadananda Gowda in a video conference organised by coastaldigest.com.

Humanity Forum also persuaded the Indian Embassy to allow the stranded cardiac patient to fly back to India through Dammam-Bengaluru repatriation flight on May 20. 

However, it was not easy for the patient to travel from Madinah to Dammam International Airport due to lock-down and curfew. ISF not only obtained travel permission for him but also arranged vehicle. Jeddah and Riyadh units of ISF helped in obtaining permission letter in their respective places in spite of travel ban imposed by the police. Madinah unit of ISF arranged vehicle for transportation. Zakariya Jokatte bore the air ticket and other expenses of the patient.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.

In a humanitarian gesture to help fellow citizens in distress, the first in the series of chartered 
flights arranged by Thumbay Group, UAE and the Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) Trust, 
Mangalore to repatriate stranded Kannadigas in the UAE took off from Ras Al Khaimah 
International Airport in the wee hours of 21st July 2020. The flight was fully occupied, with 186 passengers, all of them desperate to fly back to India for various reasons.

The initiative was conceived and implemented under the leadership of Dr. Thumbay Moideen - Founder President of Thumbay Group & Founder Patron of BCF and Dr. B K Yusuf, the 
President of BCF. The flight was organized on a purely charitable basis, with all necessary 
steps and precautions in place to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. Thumbay Group assigned its fleet of buses to transport the passengers free of charge from their residences in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to the airport. The organizers also provided free meals and refreshments to the passengers, in addition to PPE kits and face-shields distributed free of 
charges.

The passengers on the first flight included many elderly individuals, people with serious 
illnesses like heart-related health issues and diabetes, pregnant ladies and little children as well as people who had lost their jobs and those with expired visas. Dr. B K Yusuf – BCF President, Dr. Kaup Mohammed - BCF General Secretary, other office bearers of BCF, as well as Thumbay Group’s representatives Mr. Farhad C – Director of the Hospitality Division of 
Thumbay Group and Engr. Farwaz P. C. – COO of the Construction Division were present at 
the airport to see off the first group of passengers.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said, “This joint initiative of Thumbay 
Group and BCF is to support our fellow Kannadigas desperate to fly back home. We are happy that we have been able to reach out to many of them, to help them fly home to their families. We thank the Governments of the UAE and India, and the Indian Consulate, Dubai, for their support in making this happen. In the coming days, many more stranded Kannadigas would be repatriated under this joint initiative.”
Dr. B K Yusuf thanked Dr. Thumbay Moideen and the office-bearers and members of BCF for 
their efforts to make the initiative a success.

“We are proud that this initiative has brought relief to many Kannadigas and their families today. BCF is grateful to Thumbay Group for its support and partnership for all our humanitarian programs for the support of the needy.”

Dr. Kaup Mohammed said that it was a matter of pride that the much-awaited Thumbay-BCF 
repatriation flight had been carried out successfully. “Measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the flight and its passengers throughout the journey,” he said. He also thanked all the social organizations including Bhatkal Jamath, BCCI, BWF, KCF, DKSC, Kodagu Kannadigas, 
Kannadiga Help Line, Dubai Konkans and KSS, for their support. He specially thanked Mr. 
Syed Hassan Razeen, the owner of ARISTOCRAT Travels for his support in the ticketing, 
boarding and related processes. On behalf of Milano Optics Group and Maxcare, free gift 
hampers were distributed to selected passengers.

The passengers were received at Mangalore airport under the leadership of Mr. Mumtaz Ali - patron of BCF and other distinguished personalities of Mangalore including Mr. Moidin Bava - former MLA, Mr U. T. Ifthikhar, Mr. S. M. R Rashid - President of BCCI central committee and many others. The passengers were transferred to the hotels where they had registered for the mandatory quarantine.

The second flight under this joint initiative is scheduled to take-off from Ras Al Khaimah airport to Mangalore on 24th July 2020. A few more similar repatriation flights are to soon follow, in the coming weeks.
