Most culprits behind Qatif terror attack caught

Jeddah, May 27: Saudi Arabia will confront those who try to undermine its security and stability with an iron fist, said Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior.

Addressing citizens in Qatif, he said security forces have arrested most of the culprits behind Friday’s terror attack on the Imam Ali bin Abi Taleb Mosque in Al-Qadeeh village, in which 21 Saudis were killed.

“The government has taken measures to ensure security in all parts of the Kingdom. Security forces will track down all perpetrators of the terror attack and bring them to justice,” the prince said.

Prince Mohammed personally conveyed the condolences of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman to the families of the terror attack victims.

Prince Mohammad traveled to the Eastern Province on Tuesday and met the victims’ relatives in Qatif and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured people.

The crown prince visited the injured at Qatif Central Hospital and conveyed to them the prayers of King Salman.

The directorate of the health affairs in the Eastern Province said nine of the injured have fully recovered, bringing the total number of those who have been discharged from hospital so far to 62. “Twenty-five are still under treatment,” it said. “Six of them are in intensive care.”

Dubai, May 4: An Indian salesman in the UAE has won a whopping 10 million dirhams at an Abu Dhabi draw, a media report said.

Dileep Kumar Ellikkottil Parameswaran, from Kerala’s Thrissur, works with an auto spare parts company in Ajman and earns 5,000 dirhams (USD 1,361) a month, Gulf News reported on Sunday.

Parameswaran, who won the 10 million dirhams (USD 2.7 million) prize at the Big Ticket draw in Abu Dhabi, will spend a big part of the money to repay a loan of 700,000 dirhams (USD 190,574 ), according to the report.

He said that a good part of the prize money will be spent on the education of his two children.

Parameswaran, who has been a resident of the UAE for 17 years, lives in Ajman along with his family.

Big Ticket is the largest and longest-running monthly raffle draw for cash prizes and dream luxury cars in Abu Dhabi.

A live monthly draw is organized at the Abu Dhabi International Airport on 3rd of each month.

Tickets are sold for 500 dirhams (USD 136).

Dubai, Jun 7: Emirates airline on Sunday confirmed that it extended the period of reduced pay for its staff for another three months as airlines around the world struggle to preserve cash due to the grounding of fleets.

An e-mail has been sent across to Emirates employees about extending the wage cuts till September 30. In some cases, the salary will be reduced by 50 per cent.

Emirates had previously reduced basic wages by 25 to 50 per cent for three months from April, with junior employees exempted.

The Dubai-based world's largest international carrier employs around 60,000 people across its spectrum. While the parent Emirates Group employs over 100,000 workers.

On Thursday, Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways confirmed to Khaleej Times that it also extended salary cut of its employees till September 2020.

"Regretfully, Etihad has extended its salary reduction until September 2020, with 25 per cent reduction for junior staff and cabin crew, and 50 per cent for employees at manager level and above. Housing allowance and a number of benefits continue to be paid," the airline's spokesperson said in a statement last week.

In March, Etihad had announced temporary reduction of basic salaries for the month of April to all staff, including executives, between 25 to 50 per cent.
