Mangaluru, Dec 22: Globally acclaimed Islamic preacher and Grand Mufti of Zimbabwe, Ismail ibn Musa Menk aka Mufti Menk has arrived in the coastal city of Mangaluru.

He will be attending the wedding of Shameer Kopa son of Azeez Kopa and Nausheen Fathima, daughter of A M Ibrahim, Mangaluru (sister of Asif Amaco, Saudi Arabia) at Father Muller Convention Centre in the city on Sunday, December 23. 

The Mufti, who has been named one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims in the world by the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought in Jordan in 2013, 2014 and 2017, was received by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister U T Khader at Mangaluru International Airport today.

Mangaluru, May 5: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has denotified two containment zones, Sampya in Puttur and Thumbe in Bantwal. They were declared containment zones after one coronavirus positive case was reported from each area.

All the primary and secondary contacts of the patients have completed home quarantine period, said DC Sindhu B Rupesh.

The district administration hitherto had already denotified three other such containment zones based on a report of DHO,  after no new case was reported in the area in the last 28 days.

At present, the district has six containment zones-- Shakthinagara, Boloor, First Neuro Hospital in Mangaluru city, Uppinangady in Puttur, Kasaba and Narikombu in Bantwal taluk.

Mangaluru, July 28: A screenshot of a death threat message against IAS officer Sindhu B Rupesh, the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, is now going viral on social media.

The threat comes in the wake of the Deputy Commissioner’s warning against attack on cattle traders by anti-social elements ahead of Eid al-Adha. 

It is learnt that a discussion was held about DC’s warning in a pro-Hindutva WhatsApp group. The death threat was issued in the same group in Tulu language. 

A police officer said that if the deputy commissioner doesn’t lodge a complaint, the police will file a suo motu case in this regard.

Mangaluru, Jan 15: Popular Front of India leader Mohammed Saqib came down heavily on Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha for justifying the Dec 19 firing which claimed two Muslim lives in the city.  

He was addressing a mammoth crowd of around two lakh people, mostly Muslims, who had gathered at Shah Garden at Adyar in Mangaluru today to register their protest against CAA, NRP, NRC, besides police atrocities on Muslims in Mangaluru.

Criticising the way the commissioner handled the situation on December 19, he said the people have all the right to agitate when their citizenship is endangered. 

“Two men lost their lives. Then Commissioner started releasing misleading videos (to justify the killing),” he said questioning the top cop: “Who are you? Are you a British?” 

“What kind of doctor you are? You are a doctor in creating false stories,” he said whiling taking on the top cop for claiming that protesters had tried to storm the Mangaluru North Police Station.
