My enemies keep exposing themselves: Kangana

Mumbai, Jul 3: Kangana Ranaut says rather than her working to expose people, it is her enemies who keep doing the job for the actor.

Over the years, the actor has publicly called out prominent people from Bollywood, including Karan Johar, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt among others, over issues ranging from nepotism to lack of political temperament.

Kangana has also been in a widely reported public spat with actor Hrithik Roshan.

Asked if she would be exposing more people, the actor said she has a different take on it.

"It isn't that I expose anyone, sometimes people expose themselves casually. I keep it very light, I talk about common sense. As I say about my enemies, what do they need me for, they work hard on exposing themselves so badly," Kangana told reporters on Tuesday.

She was speaking at the trailer launch of her next, "Judgementall Hai Kya". Directed by Prakash Kovelamudi, the thriller also features Rajkummar Rao.

In 2016, Kangana and Hrithik slapped each other with legal notices. Kangana claimed they had a relationship and he had promised to marry her.

Hrithik, however, denied it and said they were just work colleagues and also demanded a public apology from the "Queen" star.

Kangana said the phase between 2016-2017 was when she was shamed and called mentally unstable.

"There was a phase in my life where people tried to openly shame me by saying I've a mental illness, I'm on medication. Hence I am claiming things. I had answered that as well with a 'so what?' Even though I am not on any medication, I wouldn't have been embarrassed if I was.

"When Kanika Dhillon (writer) narrated this role to me, I thought it was my story. If that phase hadn't come and I had heard the story then, maybe I wouldn't have considered it an issue - a girl being called mentally unstable," she added.

The actor said although she related to the film but doesn't take being called unstable as a compliment or humiliation.

"I neither take it as a compliment or humiliation if people think of me as Jhansi ki Rani or Mental, or Tanu or Datto," she added, citing characters from her films.

Kangana said when she left her house to make a mark in Bollywood, the only thing she had was faith.

"To keep the ability to continue to trust people is very healthy. You'll be finished without that ability if you don't trust people or don't have faith in life. If you live in constant insecurity of being betrayed, cheated, you're already finished. I work a lot to keep the ability on a high scale."

The film was initially titled "Mental Hai Kya" and was at the receiving end with many people calling the title derogatory and insensitive to mentally-challenged persons.

Members of the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) had written a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) seeking a change in the title, stating that they find it derogatory and demeaning to the mentally ill.

Balaji Telefilms, film's producer, later changed the title due to objections.

Kangana said the CBFC was extremely cooperative with the film's team.

"The Psychiatric Association asked us to battle it out in court to show that the word has indeed been banned just weeks ago. Obviously, you don't have that much choice. But we truly believe that our product is sincere and we have been given a U/A certificate.

"Their (Psychiatric Association's) panel was present there and with a heavy heart they said 'you've made a good film but we couldn't find anything offensive in it.' We have faith in our intentions. I don't think it's going to make a difference with a small title (change)," she added.

"Judgementall Hai Kya" is scheduled to be released on July 26.

Mumbai, Aug 1: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that Sushant Singh Rajput case should not be politicised or used to create friction between Maharashtra and Bihar.

Amid the ongoing criticism faced by the Mumbai Police following an investigation into Rajput's death case, the Chief Minister stressed that Mumbai Police is not "inefficient" while appealing those who have any evidence in regard to the case to step forward.

"Mumbai Police is not inefficient. If anyone has any evidence they can bring it to us and we will interrogate and punish the guilty. Please do not use this case (Sushant Singh Rajput death case) as an excuse to create friction between Maharashtra and Bihar," Thackeray said on Friday.

"Bringing politics in the case is the most deplorable thing to do," he added.

Maharashtra government has filed a caveat before the Supreme Court in the Rajput's death case.

Earlier, Bihar government and Rajput's family have filed caveats in the top court seeking to challenge actor Rhea Chakraborty's petition that sought transfer of the FIR registered in Patna to Mumbai in the actor's death case.

"After Bihar government and Rajput's family filed a caveat in the Supreme Court, Maharashtra government has filed a caveat before the SC today to ensure that no order is passed in Rhea Chakraborty's petition case without hearing its (Maharashtra) side," said Sachin Patil, standing counsel for Maharashtra Government.

A caveat is a legal process, in which the party which had filed it before the concerned court, shall have to be heard definitely before the concerned court passes any order in future.

Bihar Police has sought the assistance of Mumbai police to probe the Sushant Singh Rajput case, Mumbai police Crime Branch officials told ANI. However, the Police are still considering their request.

Bihar Police team reached after an FIR was filed by late actor's father KK Singh against Chakraborty in Bihar under several sections including abetment of suicide.

Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai residence on June 14.

Billed as a soulful love story, “Dil Bechara” marks the directorial debut of casting director and Rajput's industry friend Mukesh Chhabra. The film is produced by Fox Star Studios.

“We are humbled to be able to play a small part in sustaining the legacy of a fine actor like Sushant Singh Rajput. In celebration of his life and his extraordinary work, 'Dil Bechara' will release directly on digital this July on Disney+ Hotstar; and will be available to all subscribers and non-subscribers across India. Chhabra said he never imagined he would release the film without Rajput.

“Sushant was not just the hero of my debut film as a director, but he was a dear friend who stood by me through thick and thin. We had been close right from 'Kai Po Che!' to 'Dil Bechara'. He had promised me that he would be in my first film.

"So many plans were made together, so many dreams were dreamt together but never once did I ever imagine that I would be left alone to release this film. He always showered immense love on me while I was making it and his love will guide us as we release it,” the director said.

“Dil Bechara” is the official remake of 2014 Hollywood romantic drama “The Fault in our Stars”, which was based on John Green’s popular novel of the same name. The Hindi adaptation of the movie was done by Shashank Khaitan and Suprotim Sengupta.

“Dil Bechara” will see Rajput in a leading role alongside debutante Sanjana Sanghi, and Saif Ali Khan in an interesting cameo.

The music of the film has been composed by AR Rahman and the lyrics are by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

“Dil Bechara” revolves around Kizie Basu (Sanghi) and Immanuel Rajkumar Junior or Manny (Rajput) and explores the funny, thrilling, and tragic adventure of being alive and in love.
