New Delhi, Feb 17: The Centre would ensure “complete” freedom of faith for all to have an “undeniable” right to practice any religion without “coercion”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday.
“I condemn all incidents of violence where religious minorities were targeted,” Mr. Modi told an event organised by the Christian community to celebrate the beatification of Kuriakose Elias Chavara and Mother Euphrasia by Pope Francis in 2014.
“The government will not allow any religious group, belonging to majority or minority to incite hatred against others overtly or covertly,” he added.
Mr. Modi said: “My government will ensure that there is complete freedom of faith. Everyone has the undeniable right to retain or adopt the religion of his or her choice without coercion or undue influence.”
“Fanaticism will not be tolerated,” Mr. Modi said adding that his government stands for personal freedom. “Religion is a personal choice,” he said.
