National award winning Tamil lyricist Muthukumar dies at 41

Chennai, Aug 14: National Award-winning Tamil lyricist Na Muthukumar died here today due to jaundice, sources close to his family said. He was 41.na-muthukumar

Muthukumar had won two National awards for his songs "Ananda Yazhai Meetukiral" and "Azhage Azhage" in Tamil movies "Thanga Meengal" and "Saivam", respectively.
Born at Kancheepuram near here, he aspired to be a film director early in his career and had worked as an assistant to filmmaker Balu Mahendra.

He shot to fame with "Devadayayai Kanden," in Dhanush starrer "Kadal Konden" (2003) and his songs including "Kanpesum Varthaigal" in "7G Rainbow Colony" (2004) and "Veyilodu Vilayadi" from "Veyil" (2006) are very popular.

Film director Seeman introduced him as a lyricist in his movie "Veera Nadai" in 2000.
Muthukumar has penned lyrics for over 1000 films and had authored a novel "Silk City."

Expressing grief over the death, DMK chief Karunanidhi said he was shocked by the passing away of the young lyricist.

BJP state unit president, Tamilisai Soundararajan visited Muthukumar's house and placed a wreath.

Speaking to reporters, she praised him and his work.
Celebrities from the Tamil film industry queued up at Muthukumar's residence here to pay their last respects.

Filmmaker turned chief of 'Nam Tamizhar Katchi' Seeman said he was shocked by the death.

Actor Kamal Haasan took to Twitter to condole Muthukumar's death.
"Na Muthukumar died at 41. An important Tamil poet who also wrote for cinema. If he lived a little he'd have made the above intro redundant," he posted.

"Miss you my friend. Thanks for the words you left behind in print. Hope you enjoyed life half as much as we are going to enjoy your poems."

Actor Dhanush tweeted, "Rest in peace na.muthukumar. Very shocked and saddened. Strength to the family."

Filmmaker AR Murugadoss said, "It's really shocking... No words."

Noted music composer Devi Sri Prasad said, "He gave beautiful lyrics for many of my Tamil Songs! Can't believe this news!. May God giv Strength to his family.

"When I sing a tune, he used to spontaneously giv me the lyrics on spot!! A great Talent!! A deep loss for Tamil Films."

Music composer and actor GV Prakash Kumar said, "Can't believe this #namuthukumar is no more... He's written more than 200 songs in my films A huge loss. May god give strength to his family."

Actress Tamannaah Bhatia wrote, "You will be missed! RIP to this great soul, my prayers with his family #Namuthukumar. Just can't believe this."

Muthukumar is survived by wife and two children.

Feb 6: The Income Tax Department on Thursday recovered Rs 65 crores from the residence of Tamil actor Joseph Vijay's financer in Chennai during raids which were carried out in the connection with an alleged tax evasion case linked to AGS Cinemas, said sources.

The department is conducting raids and surveys at Actor Vijay, Financer and Producer Anbu Chezhiyan residences.

Around 38 premises have been covered in the raid.

According to IT sources the counting of money is still on so there are chances that the amount will rise. Vijay's wife was at Chennai home when IT sleuths carried out a raid at his residence.

Speaking on the reports of the Actor being intervened during the shooting of the film, the income tax official said, "Actor Vijay was not picked up between his shooting as reported in some media reports."

The actor was shooting for his upcoming film "Master in Neyveli" when he received the news of the raid.

"Actor Vijay had cut short his shooting and returned to his home immediately after getting the news of raids, now the officials are ready to facilitate him to continue his shooting if he wishes to," sources from Income Tax told news agency.

New Delhi, Jun 3: "This year feels relentless," actor Priyanka Chopra said urging Mumbai residents to take precautionary measures in view of Cyclone Nisarga.

The cyclone storm is approaching the north coast of Maharashtra with a speed of 11 kilometres per hour, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.

Sharing Mumbai's famous Bandra-Worli Sea Link road picture on her Instagram story, the actor wrote: "Cyclone Nisarga is making its way to Mumbai, my beloved home city of more than 20 million people, including my mom and brother."

"Mumbai hasn't experienced a serious cyclone landfall since 1891, and at a time when the world is so desperate, this could be especially devastating," the 'Don' actor added.

"This year feels relentless. Please, everyone, find cover, take precautions, and follow the guidelines outlines. Please stay safe everyone, " said Chopra as she shared a swipe up link to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) page that details the Do's and Don'ts for Mumbaikars to take on Cyclone Nisarga.

Earlier, the IMD had stated that the severe cyclonic storm is expected to impact the Maharashtra coast by the afternoon/evening of June 3.

On Tuesday, actor Vicky Kaushal shared a picture of the cloudy sky on the photo-sharing platform and hoped that the "first showers only bring relief and joy and not too much drama." The 'Raazi' actor also urged people to stay safe.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday announced that Doordarshan will retelecast iconic show 'Ramayana' from Saturday on public demand.

"Happy to announce that on public demand, we are starting retelecast of 'Ramayana' from tomorrow in DD National. One episode in morning 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., another in the evening 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.," Javdekar tweeted.

'Ramayana' is an Indian historical-drama epic television series, which aired during 1987-1988, created, written, and directed by Ramanand Sagar.

The show was a television adaptation of the ancient Indian Hindu epic of the same name, and is primarily based on Valmiki's Ramayan and Tulsidas' Ramcharitmanas.

DD National also said that on public demand, amid the 21-day lockdown, it will broadcast Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan from Saturday.
