Nawaz Sharif, other heads of state invited for Modi's swearing-in cerermony

Modis swearing-in cerermonyNew Delhi, May 21: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been invited for Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony on May 26, TV reports say.

The BJP is inviting heads of state of various countries, including Saarc nations, for Modi's oath-taking ceremony.

On Monday, stressing on the need for dialogue, Pakistan envoy Abdul Basit said India should not shy away from dealing with "contentious" issues like Jammu and Kashmir which need to be resolved for the two countries to move on. Basit, however, said there can't be any preconditions for resumption of dialogue.

As he reiterated Nawaz Sharif's invite to Narendra Modi to visit Pakistan, Basit said the first four-five months of the new government will determine how bilateral ties are headed.

Modi and his ministers will be sworn in on May 26 at 6pm in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The BJP won 282 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sahba election. Along with its allies, it won 336 seats in Parliament.

New Delhi, Feb 28: The months of March, April and May are "likely to be warmer than normal" over northwest, west, central and parts of south India, the India Meteorological Department said today in its summer forecast.

Above normal heat wave conditions are also likely in the core heat wave (HW) zone during the season (March-May), the weather department said.

The core heat wave zone covers the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana and parts of Maharashtra and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Pune, Jan 21: The Pune session court on Tuesday rejected the bail application of accused Vikram Bhave in the Dabholkar murder case.
Last year, Pune Sessions Court had granted an extension of 90 days to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a charge-sheet against Bhave.

On August 17, 2019, the court had rejected Bhave's bail plea.

During the course of hearing, Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Prakash Suryavanshi, appearing for the CBI, had in June last year contended that Bhave helped the assailants to escape.

The CBI had arrested Bhave and another accused Sanjeev Punalekar from Mumbai on May 25, 2019 in connection with the matter.

Founder of the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS), Dabholkar was shot dead by bike-borne assailants while returning home from a morning walk on August 20, 2013.

Chandigarh, Aug 1: The death toll in the Punjab spurious liquor tragedy rose to 86 on Saturday even as Chief Minister Amarinder Singh suspended seven excise officials and six policemen, officials said.

The government also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for each of the families of the deceased, they said.

Tarn Taran alone accounted for 63 deaths, followed by 12 in Amritsar and 11 in Gurdaspur’s Batala. Till Friday night, the state had reported 39 deaths in the tragedy unfolding since Wednesday night.

According to an official statement, the CM ordered the suspension of seven excise officials, along with six policemen.

Among the suspended officials are two deputy superintendents of police and four station house officers.

Strict action will be taken against any public servant or others found complicit in the case, said the chief minister, describing the police and excise department failure to check the manufacturing and sale of spurious liquor as shameful.

Nobody will be allowed to get away with feeding poison to our people, he added.
