Carmelites have a new parish in Koteshwar

Koteshwar, February 2: The long awaited dream of establishing a Parish in Koteshwar came true on Sunday, January 30 as the Episcopal Vicar, Very Rev. Dr. Baptist Menezes read the decree from the Bishop of Mangalore and declared St. Anthony's Chapel into a Parish.

St. Anthony's Parish in Koteshwar has altogether 72 families most of who belong to Pius Nagar Parish. For the past ten years, the Carmelite Fathers used to offer daily mass at this chapel. Since the parish is entrusted to the care of the Carmelites of the Karnataka Goa Province, their Provincial, Rev. Dr. Archibald Gonsalves was also present.

Fr. Vincent D'Souza, who had earlier rendered ten year long service in Bahrain, took charge as the first parish priest. Fr. Provincial recognized the services of Fr. Maxim Noronha in establishing St. Anthony's Chapel, Fr. Walter Mendonca, the present parish priest of Pius Nagar for facilitating the process and Fr. Boniface D'Souza, OCD for taking leadership.

The Episcopal Vicar thanked everyone and wished this new parish all the best. The Carmelite Fathers, Fr. Cyril Menezes, Fr. Melwin D'Cunha and Fr. Deep Fernandes were also present.

Udupi, Feb 27: Silver ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh were stolen from the Badakere Laxmi Janardhana temple under Byndoor police station limits in Udupi district. 

The theft which reportedly took place on Wednesday late night, came to light today morning.

Notably, this is the fourth incident reported during the last two months.

Udupi, Jan 8: Senior journalist Raviraj Valalambe passed away due to suspected cardiac arrest on Tuesday night at his residence in Kinnimulki, here. He was 50.

Raviraj was rushed to a hospital after he complained of chest pain. He breathed his last on way to medical facility.

He was the director of Prime TV, a local Kannada news channel.

He had worked as a reporter for ETV and Suvarna News channel earlier.

He is survived by wife and two daughters.

Mangaluru, Feb 13: Jnandev Kamath, former President of erstwhile Mangalore Stock Exchange Limited died late last night in a private hospital in the city.

He was 65 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Jnandev Kamath was an alumnus of SDM College of Law and Business Management. 

He was one the founding members of Mangalore Stock Exchange Limited. He was an avid sportsman, an accomplished cricketer, a champion rallyist and golf coach. 

He often played for Pentlandpet Sports Association (PPSA) in his younger days.
