Acharya urged to set up Mangalore University branch in Udupi

Udupi, February 1: Higher Education Minister Dr VS Acharya has assured to consider the demand for setting up units of Mangalore University and Sanskrit University, in Udupi.

He was replying to the demands made before him by Prof Muralidhar Upadhya Hiriadka, President of Rathabeedi Geleyaru, Udupi, at the Bannanje Ramacharya Commemoration programme, organized by Rathabeedi Geleyaru, in association with Green Park Central School, Hiriadka and Vidyaniketan Public School, Kaup, here on Tuesday.

On the occasion Dr Acharya released the book 'Bannanje Sri Ramacharya (Vyakthi-Kruthi-Smruthi)' authored by Muralidhar Upadhya Hiriadka.

Managing Editor of Taranga weekly Sandhya S Pai honoured K Seetharam Acharya and Dr M Anantha Padmanabha Bhat with the Sanskritha Puraskar, N Gururaj with Vishesha Puraskar, journalists Srikara Bhat, BM Basheer, Gajana Umesh Bhat and P Hillary Crasta with Patrika Puraskar.

Scholar Bannaje Govindacharya presided over the programme.

Convener of the programme UR Sabhapathi welcomed the gathering.

Putthige Mutt pontiff Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji, Chairman of Vidyaniketan Group of Educational Institutions KP Acharya and others were present.

Mangaluru, Jan 13: Supporting former state chief minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy who released a "CD on the December 19 Mangaluru violence", Dakshina Kannada party unit president Mohammed Kunhi on Monday demanded a probe into the violence.

Mr Kumaraswamy, who released 35 video clips related to the violence, had demanded the suspension of the Police Commissioner and also sought a house committee to probe the incident.

Addressing media personnel here, Kunhi questioned, "If the police department did not commit any mistake why is the state government looking worried about the CDs released by Kumaraswamy?"

Haveri, Jan 16: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Wednesday hinted at inducting 16 MLAs into the Cabinet which was due for expansion despite the fact that it was a difficult task.

Participating in a function of Choudayya Community here, he further said one should understand the difficulty faced to undertake cabinet expansion in the prevailing situation and whoever gives suggestion should understand the circumstances otherwise the statements would lead to confusion among the community and people of the state.

He stated that 'as many as 17 MLAs resigned to make me Chief Minister and now their community people want their leader to become Minister, it is very difficult to satisfy all of them'.

Mangaluru, Apr 23: Playing the role of a good samaritan, the owner of a commercial complex and houses has waived off a month’s rent at Panemangalore in Bantwal.

B H Complex owner Mohammed Hassan has waived the rent of 21 shops and 12 houses in the complex. Due to Lockdown, people are without jobs and are struggling to eke out a living and Mr Hassan's good gesture helps them.

Hailing from Barimaru, Mr Hassan, who was working in foreign country, has come down and settled here. He had constructed houses and commercial complex and was living on the rent he was receiving.
