Annual Day of Hira Women's College held

Mangalore, February 9: The Annual Day celebration of Hira Women's College, managed by Shanthi Educational Trust, was held recently at its premises in Babbukatte near here.

Addressing the students, chief guest Sheikh Jamal Abdul Khaliq, Vice Chairman, Board of Directors, Sheikh Abdullah Anoori Charitable Society, Kuwait said that the original sense of development lies in value based education.

In his presidential remarks Abdulla Javed, Amir of Karnataka-Goa Jama'at-e-Hind said that students should not only acquire knowledge but also think of ways of utilizing it for the betterment of the community.

Dr CP Habiburrahman, Chairman of Unity Health Complex, KM Shareef, Chairman of Shanthi Educational Trust, KM Ashraf, President, Mangalore JIH were present.

Rahmathulla, Correspondent of Shanthi Educational Trust briefed the history of College. Principal Fathima Meharoon presented the annual report of the college. Lecturer Kaneez Fathima welcomed the gathering.

Bengaluru, Jul 8: 15 police personnel from Bangalore's Whitefield division tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Out of these, 12 are from the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) police station, sources said.

A total of 27 police staff of the Whitefield division have tested positive so far and five have been discharged. The HAL police station closed on June 27 after one police staff tested COVID positive. All personnel of the police station were tested in the following days and 12 tests returned positive.

Mangaluru, May 7: Thousands of migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, led by Congress leader Mithun Rai, staged a protest here on Wednesday demanding that they be allowed to return to their native places.

The workers started a protest demonstration opposite Mangaluru City Corporation office in the city. Police dispersed the crowd for violating social distancing norms.

The workers said they have nowhere to go and nothing to eat. Therefore, they are demanding to be sent back to their states. They however, had crowded together without following the social distance norm. 

In the wake of protest, prohibitory orders under section 144(3) were imposed in Dakshina Kannada district between 7pm and 7 am till May 17 to check the spread of Covid-19.

Udupi, May 31: As many as 10 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in Udupi district today. 

The district has registered a total of 187 positive cases so far. Majority of the positive cases in Udupi district have inter-state travel history to Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, 14 people including three children who recovered from COVID -19 discharged from Government Hospital in Kundapura, in Udupi district.

Kundapura AC Raju, DHO Dr Sudhirchandra Sooda, taluk medical officer Dr Nagabhushan Udupa handed over a rose to all the discharged. With this, a total of 64 persons have been recovered and discharged in the district.
