Hike in salaries of assistant masters demanded

Mangalore, February 10: The Karnataka State High School Assistant Masters' Association has urged the state government to increase the salaries of assistant masters from the present Rs. 8,825-16,000 scale to the Rs. 10,800-20,025 scale.

The Association also urged the government to set the pay scale anomalies by complying with the recommendations of the Commissioner of Education Department based on Fifth Pay Commission.

Speaking to media persons at Press Club here on Thursday, Association Organising Secretary Manjunath Kumar KK said that despite repeated appeals to the government over the years, no effort has been done to do justice to the assistant masters.

In order to bring pressure on the government, the Association will hold a rally in Mangalore on February 19. The procession will begin at Jyothi circle at 2.30pm and culminate outside the DC office, where a memorandum will be submitted to the state government via Deputy Commissioner.

Manjunath also noted that the pay scale was lower for teachers in the state than in other states.

The Association also demanded that the government honour the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal's order and promote 75 per cent of high school teachers as headmasters and 50 per cent of headmasters as college lecturers.

The Association has also demanded medical allowance, special increment for teachers who have passed Kannada examinations, time-bound and recurring promotions for teachers from their respective dates of appointment and the removal of any discrepancies between the pay scales of junior and senior teachers.

It has also been sought that the Government consider the suspended period of SSLC evaluators as special leave, recruitment of teachers in aided high schools by withdrawing the economic measures imposed on these schools.

Teachers recruited under rural grace marks basis in 1998 and 1999 should be reinstated and all facilities given to them should be continued and their seniority should be taken into account, the Association demanded. It also underlined the need for the creation of a new post for Hindi inspectors.

The district unit President of the Association Ramakrishna Shirur, Stanley Tauro, Mangalore Urban Circle president, NS Madamaiah, city unit president, presidents of other units of the district were present at the press meet.

Shivamogga, Jan 15: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced here on Wednesady that he will present the state budget on March 5.

Speaking to media here at his Shekaripura residence, he said this will the first budget of Yediyurappa government after coming to power in July this year and it is going to be his seventh budget presentation.

Budget preparation are going on and priority will be given to farmers in the budget.

Mangaluru, Apr 29: One person was arrested on charges of murdering a middle-aged couple on Wednesday in Yellinje near Kinnigoli.

The area falls under the jurisdiction of Mulky police.

Police said that the deceased were identified as Vincent D’Souza (50) and his wife Helina D’ Souza (45).

The arrested was identified as Alphonso (55). He will be sent to judicial custody, said police.

Bengaluru: Seven fresh Covid 19 positive cases are reported in 24 hours which includes one death from Kalburgi. Of the 7 cases, Kalburgi and Vijayapura share 3 cases each and one case is from Dakshin Kannada, as per the Tuesday mid day health bulletin issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

The deceased has been identified as a 80 year male from Kalburgi. He was bedridden from the past 3 years and was suffering from Parkinson’s Disease since 4 years. Health officials said that he came with the complaint of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and expired on Monday night.

Along with his death, the total death tally now stands at 17 and the total positive cases in the state is 415.

Kalburgi which recorded the first death for Covid 19 in India has so far reported 4 deaths including the above one. The first slot for recording more deaths in the state is now shared by Bangalore urban district and Kalburgi district with each recording 4 deaths each.

Kalburgi district now has 24 active cases.

All the three cases are females, reported from Vijayapura were the primary contacts of a Corona positive patient (P306), who inturn got infected from a patient with history of SARI.

Apart from the deceased male who tested positive, the other cases from Kalburgi is of 29 year old male with influenza like illness and other case is of a 61 year old male whose source of infection is yet to be traced by the health department.

The case from Dakshin Kannada district is from Bantwala region and the positive patient is a 67 year old female with history of SARI. She is getting treated at designated hospital at Dakshin Kannada.
