Volunteer Blood Donation Day' observed

Mangalore, February 12: DK Zilla Panchayath Health and Family Welfare Department in association with DK District Senior and Juniors Nurses' Association (Men and Women) and Wenlock Hospital jointly organised “Volunteer Blood Donation Day” and blood donation camp at Wenlock hospital premises on Friday.

In his presidential address Sri Rangappa, District Health Officer said that though science has advanced in all sectors, one cannot produce artificial blood. There is no alternate substance for blood, he said. He called upon the students as well as the public to come forward to donate blood.

Rohini K, Information Officer inaugurated the programme.

The staff of District Health and Family Department Yamunappa, Laxmana and David were felicitated for donating their blood for the maximum times.

Around 25 participants donated blood on the occasion.

AIE flight crash brings back memories of 2010 Mangaluru crash

Mangaluru, Aug 8: As visuals of the Air India Express flight crash at Kozhikode international airport emerge, one cannot help but be reminded of an eerily similar and unfortunate accident that occurred a decade ago. The August 7, 2020 tragedy brought back memories of the 2010 crash.

It was on May 22, 2010 that an Air India Express Boeing 737-800 flight from Dubai to Mangaluru over shot the runway while landing at Bajpe airport and fell into a cliff. Of the 160 passengers and 6 crew members on board, 158 were killed (all crew members and 152 passengers) and only 8 survived.

Even back then, the plane had split into two. The crash has been termed as one of India's worst aviation disasters.

The final conversations between Air traffic control (ATC) and the pilot prior to the landing showed no indication of any distress.

Like the Mangaluru accident, Karipur crash too happened when the flight was attempting to land.

The captain of the aircraft which crashed at Mangaluru, Z Glucia, was an experienced pilot with 10,000 hours of flying experience and had 19 landings at the Mangalore airport. Co-pilot S S Ahluwalia, with 3,000 hours of flying experience had as many as 66 landings at this airport. Both the pilot and co-pilot were among the victims.

An investigation into the accident later found that the cause of the accident was the captain’s failure to discontinue an ‘unstabilised approach’ and his persistence to continue with the landing, despite three calls from the First Officer to ‘go-around’.

Mangaluru airport bomb planter Aditya Rao surrenders; calls it act of revenge

Bengaluru, Jan 22: The suspected man in planting of a live bomb at the Mangaluru International Airport surrendered before the DG and IG of Karnataka Police, Neelamani Raju, here on Wednesday, police sources said.

The accused was identified as Aditya Rao, a resident of Udupi.

The accused was taken for questioning by the Halasurugate Police, where he was being interrogated intensively, the sources further said.

According to them, he confessed that he planted an explosive device at Mangaluru Airport on Monday said that it was an act of revenge for denying him an employment by the Kempegowda International Airport Limited (KIAL).

He was arrested by the Bengaluru police in the past for making a hoax call to the police stating that a bomb had been planted at the Bengaluru Airport.

Karnataka Home minister Basavaraj Bommai told the media that 'the Bengaluru police have taken the custody of Aditya Rao, who is being subjected for a thorough interrogation'.

The Mangaluru police was also likely to join the Bengaluru police into the investigation, the sources added.

This would have been a false flag operation, if he was not caught, they would have been an explosions and Dr.police would have put muslim youths behind bars...or that was the intention/plan but due to unforseen reasons failed......i hope someone comes out with the truth..

if he were to be a muslim, he would have benn branded terrorist. revenge and all these expalnations are just excuses. investigate from where an dhow he got bombs.

Bomb has weaken once bomber name appears. Now time for fact finding, family emotions, personal attachments etc. If he was Muslim it would have connected to ISIS, Anti-CAA, Pakistan, Kerala..

Bengaluru: Lured into flesh trade, Bhojpuri dancer senses trouble, alerts CISF

Bengaluru, Feb 14: A 31 -year-old Bhojpuri dancer and another girl were rescued from human traffickers after the former alerted city police on landing at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday. They were to be received by a woman named Preethi at the airport.

The dancer had been told she was supposed to perform a few stage shows in the city, which has a significant Bhojpuri-speaking population. But when she realised she is likely to be pushed into flesh trade, she raised an alarm.

The woman, Radha (name changed), is a mother of four children and the lone breadwinner of the family. A few months ago, Radha came in contact with a woman named Soniya in New Delhi during a dance performance. Last month, Soniya got in touch with Radha and offered to pay Rs 40,000 per month if she performed in Bengaluru.

Radha agreed and was sent to Bengaluru from Chandigarh along with the other girl. During the journey, she learnt she was supposed to do more than just perform on stage. A shocked Radha informed the Central Industrial Security Force personnel manning KIA that she feared being pushed into prostitution. KIA police were informed and the women were rescued. Preethi was arrested.
