White Doves to stage play as part of Mother Teresa's birth centenary

Mangalore, February 12: To commemorate the birth centenary of Mother Teresa in the Diocese of Mangalore, the 'White Doves', an NGO, is putting up an impressive light and sound show entitled “Jeevanth Saqnthin” (The Living Saint) at the Agnes Special School grounds here on Sunday, February 13 at 6 pm.

Corrine Rasquinha Founder President, White Doves, told media persons at Press Club here, the Konkani Play “Jeevanth Saqnthin” written and directed by Arthur Rasquinha of Mangalore and has a 70 strong cast of men, women and children drawn from all the parishes of the city.

The play will showcase the life and mission of the “Living Saint” and is scheduled to be staged in Bantwal, Madanthyar, Shirva and Pakshikere parishes on the Sundays of 20th and 27th February, 6th and 13th March respectively, as desired by the Bishop of Mangalore.

Ever since its inception in 1995, the “White Doves” has been endeavoring to give shelter and care to the destitute, the abandoned, sick and the under-privileged class in the society - a work prompted by the biblical message “Whatever you do to the least of my brethren you do it unto me”, she said.

Taking Mother Teresa as their role model, the White Doves have been running two homes for the homeless having over 75 inmates. The play will also serve as a fund-raiser to contribute to this worthy cause.

Corrine Rasquinha, the Founder President of the “White Doves”, has exhorted the members of the public to attend in large numbers to witness this worthy play and to honor the revered memory of Mother Teresa.

Vitus Rasquinha, Founder Trustee, White Doves, Jerald Fernades Manager and Arthur Rasquinha, Director of the Play were present at the press meet.

Mangaluru, Jan 10: A gang of smugglers, who were planning to illegally export 4,000 kg of red sandalwood worth Rs 2 crore through New Mangalore Port, were nabbed in a joint operation by the anti-rowdy squad of Mangaluru North sub-division and sleuths of Panambur police station.

The arrested have been identified as Tabrez (36), Lohith (35), Rakesh Shetty (44), Hussain kunhimonu (45) and Farooq (45).

Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha said that red sandalwood worth Rs 2 crore were seized from the accused.

The other seized properties from the arrested include a Maruti Brezza, Renault Pulse, Tata Ace, two plywood boxes and seven mobile phones valued Rs 19 lakh.

Based on a tip off, the police raided a godown on the road leading to Jokatte from Baikamlady Industrial Area and seized 4,000 kg of red sanders worth  Rs 2 crore.

A case has been registered under Sections 50, 62, 80, 104 of Karnataka Forest Act and 144, 165 of Karnataka Forest Rules at the Panambur police station.

Mangaluru, May 22: Dakshina Kannada today reported a fresh case of coronavirus infection, taking the coastal district's tally to 62. 

The new patient is a 29-year-old womon, who was under instituional quarantine monitored by the district administration in Belthangady. 

She had returned from Mumbai on May 18. Her throat swabs were sent for covid-19 testing on the following day and today she received positive result.

Out of the 62 covid-19 cases detected in Dakshina Kannada so far, only 50 are residents of the district. Among 12 others 4 are from Kasaragod and 3 from Karkala, 2 each from Uttara Kannada and Mumbai, and 1 from Kalaburgi.

Jan 21: Info Edge (India)'s shareholding in Zomato reduces to 22.71%; Uber receives 9.99% stake in Zomato.

Info Edge (India) announced that Zomato Media (Zomato) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Uber's food delivery business in India (Uber) in an all-stock transaction, which gives Uber 9.99% ownership in Zomato.

Uber Eats in India will discontinue operations and direct restaurants, delivery partners, and users of the Uber Eats apps to the Zomato platform, effective 21 January 2020.

Upon closing of said acquisition, the company's shareholding in Zomato shall stand reduced to about 22. 71 % on fully converted & diluted basis.
