Mangalore, February 13: Civic workers on Saturday staged a desperate protest against Mangalore City Corporation by keeping the body of their colleague, who collapsed and died while undertaking cleaning drive two weeks ago.
Protesters shouted slogans against the MCC authorities accusing them of delaying payment for the treatment expenses incurred by civic worker Kumar (28), who died in a private hospital.
They alleged that the Corporation took considerable time in releasing the treatment expenses.
Kumar got admitted to the hospital after he fell ill while on duty on January 29.
The protesting civic workers said that they did not have necessary health cover. Private hospitals refuse to give treatment in the absence of letters from MCC, they said.
They also demanded that the Corporation provide all civic workers health cover on the lines of ESI scheme.
