Miladunnabi kick-starts as Madrasa children hold colourful Milad procession

Mangalore, February 15: Eid Milad was celebrated on Tuesday by children of various Madrasas in Mangalore with religious fervor and traditional gaiety.

Students of both branches of Al-azhariya Madrasas took out a procession early in the morning marching on the streets of Azeezuddin Road, Ansari Road and JM Road chanting salaths and baith in Arabic.

As many as 1,000 students from the two Madrasas wearing Madrasa uniform and holding Madrasa flags participated in the procession which culminated with a Milad meeting at the Madrasa premises on Azeezuddin Road.

Yenepoya Mohammed Kunhi, the president of the management committee, attended the function where prizes were distributed to children for academic excellence as well as winning various competitions, including singing and daff, held to mark the Miladunnabi.

Processions and meetings were also held in Madrasas of Kandathpalli, Kudroli Nadupalli and Kudroli Moidin Palli and also in Bolar. Nearly one thousand students wearing traditional white dresses and displaying daff and kolu kali arts took part in the procession which culminated with Milad meetings at the respective Madrasas.

The local residents and associations gave warm reception to the children at various places and sweets, soft-drinks and other gifts were also distributed.

Maulavi Abdul Waheed Faizi, Khateeb of Zeenathbaksh Jumma Masjid, Khateeb of Boobkhan Masjid, former Mayor KE Ashraf, managers of Madrasa Ashraf and Riyaz, Muslim Central Committee organizing secretary Riyaz Haji, volunteers of Social Service Centre, took part in the meeting.

The main Milad procession will be held in the evening at 4pm. The procession will be flagged off at Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid after people from Kudroli arrive at the venue. The same procession will pass through Mission Street and Hampankatta before culminating at Bavutagudda Masjid, where a Milad meeting will be held under the aegis of Seerath Committee.

B Ahmed Haji Mohiyuddin, Maulana Abusufyan and other speakers are expected to speak. Streets in Kudroli and Bunder area have been decked up with buntings and banners to mark the occasion. The roundabout at erstwhile Clock Tower as well as the entire stretch on the procession route has been decorated with green buntings and banners.

Udupi, May 12: The Coastal Bus Owner’s Association members have approached Deputy Commissioner to permit them to run bus service in the District.

Nearly 80 buses coming under the Coastal Bus Association and they are prepared to run the buses as per the guidelines set by the government. They have also requested RTO officials for permission to operate and are awaiting approval. If the bus service starts operating, many workers like drivers, conductors, cleaners, mechanics will get employment.

Coastal Bus Owners Association President Raghavendra Bhat said that the bus owners must provide services to the public as per regulations set by Deputy Commissioner.

Davanagere, Apr 26: Amid the national lockdown imposed by the Centre to check the spread of coronavirus, social distancing norms were flouted as BJP MLA from Honnali -- MP Renukacharya -- held a meeting of ASHA workers on Thursday.

The workers were present in large numbers and no distance of at least one metre between the workers was maintained during the meeting.

However, the workers were seen wearing masks at the meeting but violating the norms of social distancing.

Social distancing is one of the measures that can help people avoid contracting the highly contagious coronavirus.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka has a total of 489 positive COVID-19 cases of which, 153 patients have recovered and 18 patients have died due to the deadly virus.

Bengaluru, Apr 1: After fake sanitisers and masks, Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have busted another racket and seized fake thermometers worth Rs 8 lakh, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

Based on credible information, police conducted the raid on Prajval Surgical and Scientific store located on the first floor of a commercial building in the first block, Rajajinagar. They arrested store manager Keshavan N, 32, a resident of Kurubarahalli.

The police have seized 70 fake infrared forehead thermometers and 60 batteries used in these thermometers. They were worth around Rs 8 lakh as per the price they charged customers for each thermometer.
