Navabharath Night School celebrates 68th annual day

Mangalore, February 15: Writer and retired principal of Ganapathi Pre-University College, Chandrakala Nandavar on Tuesday urged students from less affluent families to win poverty through hard work and dedication.


She was speaking as the chief guest at the 68th Annual Day function of the Navabharath Night School held at Town Hall.


"Poverty should not become a hindrance for those who want to achieve something in life. The hardshhips of life makes a man much stronger and gives him enormous will power. One should not get frustrated by poverty and change adversities into opportunities. They should grab the opportunities. The students of night school should not bother about the situation that made them to study during night. Instead they should fight poverty and become self-employed individuals," she said.


"Blaming poverty and letting go of opportunities will be detrimental in life. I have seen during my experience as a teacher hundreds of students who have fought poverty and excelled in life," Ms Nandavara added.


Ahmed Haji Mohiyuddin, the chairman of the Navabharath Night School, in his presidential address recalled the contribution of Khaled Master in setting up the institution and saluted his foresight and vision.


Dr PV Shenoy, of Harsha Clinic, M Ramachandra, correspondent, Sridhar Prabhu, headmaster, Fakruddin Ali, Laxmi Nayar, treasurer were present. Ravi compered the programme. Judith Mascaranhas proposed vote of thanks.

Mangaluru, July 29: Justifying the transfer of Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, district in-charge minister Kota Shrinivas Poojari has accused Mangaluru MLA U T Khader of politicizing the issue. 

The IAS officer was transferred by the Karnataka government on July 28, a day after a saffron activist issued a death threat against her on social media after she warned of legal action against the miscreants who attack cattle traders.

Condemning the development, Mr Khader had tweeted that the state government has punished the deputy commissioner instead of punishing the culprit, who issued death threat.

Responding to Mr Khader’s tweet, Mr Poojari said that the transfer of the officer was on administrative ground. “It is unfortunate that Khader politicized a transfer carried out by the government on administrative ground. This is not Khader’s time to protect any accused,” tweeted Mr Poojari. 

It is worth mentioning here that Mr Khader was the district in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada before Mr Poojari taking over the position. 

Meanwhile, police has arrested a person in connection with the death threat against the IAS officer.

Bengaluru, Jun 29: Bengaluru continued to see a sharp spike in covid- 19 cases as 738 more people tested positive on Monday that took the city's tally to 4052 of which 3427 is active.

The surge in Bengaluru pushed up the number of positive cases to 1105 across Karnataka. The total number of cases in Karnataka now stands at 14,295 of which 6382 are active.

The death toll stood at 230 as 19 more people died in the 24 hours till 5 pm on Monday.

Karnataka, particularly Bengaluru, has seen a sharp rise in cases over the last two weeks indicating the possibility of community transmission and further rise in cases.

Estimates by government authorities project that Karnataka will have around 25,000 cases by mid-August.

R.Ashok, the revenue minister incharge of covid- 19 in Bengaluru on Monday told doctors that they would have to dedicate another six months to contain the virus indicating that authorities were expecting the case count to rise in subsequent days and months.

The city reported over 3,200 cases since 19 June as against 844 cases between 8 March and 18 June.

There are around 500 containment zones in Bengaluru that is likely to have an impact of business and activities in the state's growth capital and its efforts to revive the economy.

The state government on Monday held meetings with private hospitals to increase the number of beds available for treatment of covid- 19.

The number of people in intensive careunits (ICU) jumped to 268.

Bengaluru, Jun 18: As many as 210 new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths have been reported in Karnataka, taking the total cases to 7,944 and death toll to 114, said State Health Department.

Today, 179 persons have been discharged across the State while 4,983 persons have been discharged so far.

The number of total active cases in Karnataka stands at 2,843.

The COVID-19 count in India has reached 3,66,946 on Thursday, according to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry (MoHFW).

The death toll due to COVID-19 has now reached 12,237. The COVID-19 count includes 1,60,384 active cases, while 1,94,325 patients have been cured and discharged or migrated so far.
