Spice Jet likely to start operations in M'lore

Mangalore, February 16: Spice Jet is considering starting domestic operations from Mangalore Airport, M R Vasudeva, Director, Mangalore Airport, has said.

“Their team had come and they are considering starting operations here. However, nothing has been finalized. It is being considered”, Vasudeva said.

If they do so, it is expected that the airline would connect Mangalore to cities like Bangalore, New Delhi and Mumbai.

Spice Jet, which came into the aviation picture in 2005, is regarded as a low cost airline. The headquarters of the airline lies in Gurgaon. The airline also has international flights to neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Udupi, Jan 25: The accused, who planted a crude bomb at the Mangalore International Airport on January 20, was brought to Udupi on Saturday, to collect information, as part of the spot investigation, police said here.

According to police officials, accused Aditya Rao was brought to Karnataka Bank Kadiyali branch, where Rao had a Safe Locker. The team opened the locker and seized the documents, along with a Box.

They said the seized documents, along with the Box, will be sent to the FSL for investigation.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa has received two threatening calls from Tamil Nadu, according to Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He said that he had instructed the police to provide adequate security. 

At 12.30 pm on Friday, an unidentified person made a phone call. Speaking in Tamil, he threatened Eshwarappa with life, it is said.

Eshwarappa is known for abusive remarks and issuing threats to non-Hindus.

New Delhi, Jul 29: Air Commodore Hilal Ahmad Rather has become a buzz name in Kashmir overnight. Hilal saw off the first batch of Rafale jets which took off from France to India on Monday. Among other things, he has also been associated with the weaponisation of the Rafale aircraft for acclimatisation to Indian requirements.

Hilal is presently India's Air Attache in France.

The career details of this officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) read like the decoration scroll of the best flying officer anywhere in the world.

Born in the south Kashmir's Anantnag district to middle-class parents, Hilal's father, late Mohammad Abdullah Rather retired as a deputy superintendent of police (Dy SP) in J&K police department. He has three sisters and is the only son of his parents. Hilal studied in Sainik School in Nagrota town of Jammu district.

He was commissioned in IAF as a fighter pilot on December 17, 1988, became flight lieutenant in 1993, wing commander in 2004, group captain in 2016 and air commodore in 2019.

He graduated from defence services staff college (DSSC). He also graduated from air war college (USA) with distinction. He won the sword of honour in NDA. Hilal is also the recipient of Vayu Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva medal.

With an impeccable record of 3,000 accident-free flying hours on mirage-2000, MIG-21 and Kiran aircraft, Hilal's name will now forever be associated with Rafale in India.
