Moodbidri, February 17: Renowned spiritual guru and founder of the Art of Living Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Thursday openly condemned the practice of 'Made Snana' a Hindu religious ritual, saying that it is a callous system.

He was interacting with a group of dignitaries including officials, elected representatives and journalists at Anandamaya Resort at Shobha Vana in Moodbidri.

Mr Ravi Shankar pointed out that neither there is any evidence for the practice of Made Snana in any authentic religious scriptures of Hinduism, nor any Hindu religious leader endorsed it.

He also challenged those who advocate this practice to prove any religious significance of it or provide any evidence for it in the sacred scriptures.

In his prolonged discussion the spiritual leader touched upon various issues related to spirituality, meditation, humanity, love as well as politics and its various aspects.

Referring to a recent statement of Chief Minster BS Yeddyurappa, who had claimed that there was a conspiracy to eliminate him by taking recourse to vamachara (an Indian witchcraft or black magic), Mr Ravi Shankar said there is no need to worry about vamachara for a theist. “The vamachara cannot make any impact on one who believes in God or divinity. Only an atheist can fear for such things,” he said.

Sri Sri also called upon the state government to ban alcohol, saying that the current situation of politics in Karnataka cannot be improved unless a strict ban was imposed on liquor.

Bengaluru, May 27: Aimed at giving a boost to affordable housing, the Karnataka government on Tuesday decided to slash the stamp duty on new apartments costing up to ₹35 lakh.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to review the progress of the Stamps & Registration department.

The Chief Minister directed that the stamp duty be cut from the existing five per cent to two per cent on apartments costing less than ₹20 lakh, getting registered for the first time, his office said in a statement.

Further, the stamp duty on apartments costing between ₹21 lakh - ₹35 lakh will be down from five per cent to three per cent, it said. It is estimated that in 2020-21 due to COVID-19 induced lockdown, Stamps and Registration department might fall short of its revenue target by ₹3,524 crore. The revenue target for 2020-21 is ₹12,655 crore.

Bengaluru, Jan 18: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the "flag-bearer" of the Indian culture and tradition.

In his speech at an event organised by Vedanta Bharati here, Shah said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is touring across the globe as the flag bearer of the Indian culture and tradition." To buttress his point, the BJP National President said Modi took a holy dip in Ganga and attended Ganga Arati in Varanasi before taking oath as the Prime Minister.

It was for the first time that Modi sent red sander to Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal to perform special prayers on behalf of the government of India.

Shah also slammed the previous governments for their wrong interpretation of secularism, preventing them from honouring the best things of the country. "But after a long interval we have a Prime Minister who sends across the message that we have a lot to give to the world," Shah said.
