AIITA holds Muslim teachers' district convention

Mangalore, February 19: Teachers should be ready to face any challenges boldly as they play a crucial role in the society said Saleem Basha, senior lecturer, DIET, Hassan.

He was speaking at the Muslim teachers' district convention organised under the auspices of All India Ideal Teachers Association on Saturday at Badriya College here. The central theme of the convention was “the aptitude and challenges of modern education.”

Mr Basha said challenges are also a part of the field of education, which bears the responsibility of enlightening a generation.

He said teachers possess the ability of constructing or destructing a society. However, he lamented that lack of commitment to the profession among teachers is a major hindrance to the goal of education.

He also said education should be based on modern information technology along with moral and human values.

Prof B M Beeran Moideen of PA College of Engineering stated that the main objective of the education is to reach out the students.

He said teachers should implement modern technology in learning as education and modern technology go hand in hand.

Dr N Ismaeel, Principal, Badriya Pre University College presided over the programme.

New Delhi, Jun 5: Congress has named Mallikarjun Kharge as its candidate for ensuing biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.

Party interim president Sonia Gandhi approved Kharge's candidature on Friday, according to a Congress release by general secretary Mukul Wasnik.

The elections to fill the pending 18 Rajya Sabha seats from seven states will be held on June 19.

Udupi, Jan 8: Senior journalist Raviraj Valalambe passed away due to suspected cardiac arrest on Tuesday night at his residence in Kinnimulki, here. He was 50.

Raviraj was rushed to a hospital after he complained of chest pain. He breathed his last on way to medical facility.

He was the director of Prime TV, a local Kannada news channel.

He had worked as a reporter for ETV and Suvarna News channel earlier.

He is survived by wife and two daughters.

Hubli, Mar 15: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday said that his government has asked Centre to help in setting up of labs in view of the coronavirus cases.

Speaking to reporters after reviewing the situation in the state on coronavirus, Yediyurappa said, "No new cases were reported on Saturday and Sunday. The cases reported are of people who came from abroad. Government has made all preparation to fight against this. We have asked the central government to help in setting up labs wherever required, shortly we will do it."

"We have taken a lot of precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus. For the first time shutdown has been declared for a week. People are also cooperating with us, we will take a further decision after one week," he added.

Karnataka government has said that as of now six cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the state, including one person who died.

"Till date six COVID-19 cases have been reported in the state including one death. The 5 Coronavirus positive cases are in isolation at the designated hospital in Bengaluru," the Karnataka government said on Sunday.
