Two Mysore boys go missing after visiting Mangalore

February 20, 2011

Mangalore, February 20: Two boys, Mohammed Shoyeb (12) and Zulfikar (15), have gone missing from Narasimharaja police station limits in Mysore since February 14.

Shoyeb's brothers Mohammed Arif and Mohammed Thousif, who have come to Mangalore in search of their brother told media that Shoyeb, a 7th standard student of Government School in Mysore, arrived at home after school hours on February 14 and left home for playing, as usual.

As he did not return till late night, the family members started searching for Shoyeb when they met Mohammed Gaus (also Shoyeb's classmate) on road at night. Upon questioning, Gaus spilled the beans that Zulfikar (another classmate) took him (Gaus) and Shoyeb to Mysore railway station on February 14 evening. The trio also booked a ticket to Mangalore.

When the train was about to leave for Mangalore, Gaus alighted from the train fearing that his father would scold/beat him. He reportedly told Arif that he had also requested Shoyeb to return home, but the duo (Shoyeb and Zulfiker) continued their journey towards Mangalore. Zulfiker has reportedly told Gaus that he is planning to find a job in Mangalore.

The family members have sought help from Pandeshwar police and they are also searching for the boys in Mangalore.

Interestingly, Zulfiker had run away from his home three years ago and returned home last year, when his father decided to admit him to 7th standard. He had told his father that he was in Tamil Nadu for 2 years.

Zulfiker has taken Rs 1,500 from his home while leaving on February 14. It is also learnt that he also sold his mobile phone just a week ago.

Narasimharaja police in Mysore have registered a case and further investigations are on. If anybody gets any clue about these boys, they can inform the nearest police station or dial 100.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: The week-long ban imposed by the Karnataka Government from Saturday is yet to get a total response in the State to fight against the spread of killer disease Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The ban has witnessed a considerable reduction in the travelling public by Bus and train. Bus terminal and Railway stations wore desert look or only a very few public travelling. KSRTC, which was maintaining service for every 10 minutes once between the State Capital and to City of Palaces, was forced to cancel most of the service due to very little patronage.

"We were left with no option but to cancel the fleet since there are no passengers," sources at the KSRTC Bus terminal told media persons.

Bengaluru, July 17: A 60-year-old woman who tested positive for Covid-19 allegedly ended her life in the Covid ward at KC General Hospital in the early hours of Friday.

The woman, the fourth Covid positive patient to end her life since April, was a resident of Mariyappanapalya near Jnanabharathi in West Bengaluru. She was found hanging from a window grille in the passage of the Covid ward around 5 am. She had used her sari to hang herself.

The police said that the woman was admitted to the hospital on July 1. She was responding well to the treatment and was almost cured. Her son was infected first and admitted to the same hospital. As she later tested positive and got admitted, her son was discharged on July 11. The police suspect that the woman may have resorted to the extreme step due to depression.

An investigating officer quoted doctors telling the police that they were about to inform the woman about her discharge date on Friday. Doctors were waiting for the report on her latest test before discharging her.

The woman’s body will be subjected to an autopsy as per the Covid standard procedure. The Malleswaram police have taken up a case of unnatural death. Investigations are on.

On July 11, a 70-year-old man ended his life in the toilet of the Covid ward in Victoria Hospital, while a suicide was reported in the same ward on June 26. A 60-year-old woman also hanged herself in the toilet. Her son, daughter-in-law, and grandson were also admitted to hospital for Covid-19.
