February 20, 2011

Mangalore, February 20: Although Mangalore has contributed a considerable number of sports talents to the nation, the lack of interest on part of administration was a major hindrance to the overall development in the field of sports in this part of the country, said Payyoli Express P T Usha.

She was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the 21 km long half-marathon and 6 km long mini-marathon at Mangala Stadium here on Sunday morning organised by Dakshina Kannada district administration with the sponsorship of Vijaya Bank under the slogan of “Clean, Green, Progressive Mangalore.”

The Kerala based athlete said that young athletes of this coastal city are facing several problems due to the lack of sports infrastructure. “It is a shame that despite achieving progress in several fields, Mangalore still could not be able to provide at least a synthetic track for its young athletes,” she lamented.

Congratulating the district administration for organising a great marathon for a good cause, she expressed hope that Mangalore marathon will emerge as an annual feature on the lines of similar events in Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai.

Bengaluru, Jun 20: Continuing with the easing of restrictions under 'Unlock 1.0', the Karnataka government on Saturday authorised local bodies to fix timing for opening of public parks other than those in the containment zones between 5 am to 9 pm.

It has also mandated adhering to all the national directives issued to contain the spread of COVID-19 and the guidelines issued by the state government in this connection.

Noting that the government has been relaxing conditions under unlock 1.0, Principal Secretary Revenue N Manjunath Prasad, who is also the member secretary of the state disaster management authority in an order said, local bodies have been asked to set the timing between 5 am to 9 pm to open all parks that come under them and the government.

It said this would be applicable to only those parks that come outside the containment zones. Earlier in May, while relaxing the lockdown norms, the government had set 7 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm for the opening of parks.

"The BJP-led government will complete its term under the leadership of B S Yediyurappa," Kateel told media persons in the city on Saturday.

“A few MLAs had met and discussed the developments in North Karnataka. There is nothing wrong in discussing development keeping in mind the party's interests.”

Indiscipline within the party will not be tolerated. Strict action will be initiated against those who indulge in such activities by the party High Command, he warned.

The government, led by Yediyurappa, has carried out good works in the state. All the MLAs are supporting the chief minister. All the MLAs are in contact with me, claimed Kateel.
