?Udupi, February 22: The annual meeting of the beneficiaries' of the 108 ambulance, was held at Red Cross Bhavan, Udupi on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion District Manager of the108 Ambulances Vijay KS gave the details of the functioning of 108 ambulances. The 108 emergency ambulance service has attended as many as 6428 cases in the district. Out of them 1866 cases were accident related cases, 948 were labor pain cases, 480 were heart attack cases.

The beneficiaries' meet was organized to popularize the108 ambulances, to optimize its services to the needy, Vijay said. Out of the total 517 ambulances, 11 ambulances had been placed in Udupi, he added.

Speaking on the occasion DHO Dr Ramachandra Bairy said that the 24 hour, 108 ambulance service is free all the people. He called upon the people to make the maximum use of this service and not to misuse the system by making fake calls. He also called upon the people to overcome the myth that the 108 ambulances only pick the injured in the road accident cases. Apart from accident cases, the services can be utilized by the people for heart attack, fits, severe stomach pain, labour pain, burns injuries and other injuries too, Dr Bairy said adding the 108 ambulance should not used to carry the dead bodies.

District Incharge for EMRI 108 Venkatesh Sutrave, fleet head Anil Kumar Patil, Pilot Rajashekhar, Emmergency Medical Technicians Karibasappa NM, Santhosh, Prakash, Vedamurthy, Manja Naika participated in the meet.

PFI, SDPI will be banned; party hopper MLAs who joined BJP will be awarded: K S Eshwarappa

Mysuru, Jan 19: Karnataka Rural Development and Panchyat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa on Sunday claimed that Popular Front of India and Social Democratic Party of India have been indulging in anti-national activities.

Talking to media persons here, he said the government is mulling to ban and take action against PFI and its political arm SDPI.

It was recommended even during the previous government, but it was not taken seriously, he added.

He said that the BJP will ensure that all the MLAs who were instrumental in the party coming to power (the then-disqualified MLAs who joined BJP from Congress and JDS recently and won the bypoll subsequently) will not be let down and be given suitable posts in the government.

Dr Arathi Krishna urges immediate evacuation of stranded Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia, free quarantine facility

Mangaluru, May 8: Dr Arathi Krishna, former deputy chairman of Karnataka NRI Forum, today called on Karnataka chief secretary Vijaya Bhaskar and urged him to exert pressure on the Centre through chief minister to expedite evacuation of Kannadigas stuck in Saudi Arabia amidst covid-19 lockdown.

She also conveyed the message from labourers in Gulf countries requesting for free quarantine facility upon their arrival. Positively responding to the demand, Mr Bhaskar said that free quarantine facility will be arranged at BSF base in Bengaluru apart from paid quarantine facility in different hotels and guest houses.

Dr Arathi Krishna told coastaldigest.com that she also spoke to the officials in-charge of Gulf in the Ministry of External Affairs and requested them to take necessary steps to add more special flights from Gulf countries to Karnataka.

The officials have promised to consider operating flight from Riyadh to Mangaluru via Dammam in the second wave of evacuation, the schedule of which is expected to be announced in a few days, she said.

Uber resumes operations in Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi after 2 months

Bengaluru, May 22: Uber said on Friday it has resumed its operations in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, and Hubballi, in compliance with Lockdown 4.0 guidelines issued by the Government.

Riders in Bengaluru can book UberAuto, UberGO, Premier, Intercity, Hourly Rental, UberXL, Access, and Assist on their Uber App.

UberAuto, UberGO, Premier, and Intercity are available in Mysuru, UberGO and Intercity services in Mangaluru, and UberAuto services in Hubballi.

Uber Intercity operations will be limited to travel with necessary authorisation and within state boundaries and permissible zones only, the company said in a statement.

Uber said it has launched comprehensive measures such as the distribution of PPE kits, including masks, sanitisers and disinfectants to drivers and the introduction of mandatory educational video courses for them.
