Karkala: Classical music festival held at Sri Venkatramana Temple

Mangalore, February 23: Shastreeya Sangeeth Sabha (R) of Karkala successfully organised a unique Classical Music Festival "Tataaka Sangeet Mahotsav” at the premises of "Sheshatheertha" Lake of Padutirupati Karkala Sri Venkatramana Temple on February 19, from 6 pm to midnight to celebrate its 19th anniversary.

The Festival was inaugurated by K Jayarama Prabhu, Manging Trustee of Sri Venkatramana Temple by Lighting the Lamp. The Chief Manager of Karnatala Bank Surendra Pai and Chief Manager of Corporation Bank Karkala Anil Joshi Were Present. President of the Sabha S Nithyanand pai welcomed and Secretary Dr Prakash Shenoy proposed vote of thanks.

Three Top Class artistes of International Repute Vidushi S Sowmya( Chennai)- Carnatic Vocal, Vidushi Manju Mehta of Ahmedabad - Sitar Recital and Pt. Venkatesh Kumar of Dharwad- hindustani Vocal kept the audience spellbound throughout. The lakeside Music Festival with special lighting of the whole venue with thousands of Mudlamps (DIYAS) and a very attractive stage of Rajastani Temple Door Pattern inspired all the artistes who gave their best performances.

Vid. Vittal Ramamoorthy(Violin), Vid. Neyveli Narayanan( Mridangam), Vid. K V Gopalakrishnan(Kanjira), Padit Omkarnath Gulvady,Mumbai and Pt. Ravindra Yavagal, Bangalore on Tabla and Pt. Vyasmurthy Katti, Bangalaore (Harmonium) provided excellent accompaniment. The Festival had attracted people from many neighbouring districts and also from Goa and Kerala.

Bengaluru,  Mar 26: The nationwide lockdown in the view of coronavirus outbreak has driven some people to the edge. In Karnataka, within less than 24 hours, two cases of people creating trouble for police personnel have come to light.

On Wednesday, a middle-aged man was shot in his leg by the police after he tried to assault two police constables of Sanjaynagar police station. The police constables were identified as Manjunatha and Basavararaju.
The accused reportedly breached the check post at Bhoopasandra. He and his friends were over-speeding and performing stunts on bikes. When the policemen tried to secure them after giving them a chase, they attacked the cops.

When they were taken into custody, one of them again tried to escape and hurled stones and bricks on the cops. In order to prevent further assault, the police then fired two rounds – one in the air and the second one on his left leg.

Bengaluru,  Aug 4: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted himself to a hospital.

"I have been tested positive for COVID-19 and also been admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors as a precaution. I request all those who had come in contact with me to check out for symptoms and to quarantine themselves," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

Earlier on Sunday, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had said that he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

4,752 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Monday, taking total cases to 1,39,571 including 62,500 discharges and 2,594 deaths, the State Health Department informed.

Mangaluru, Feb 12: More than 7,000 people at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) and over 1,000 at the New Mangalore Port (NMP) have undergone thermal screening for the novel coronavirus in the past few days, a taluk health official said on Wednesday.

A few more ships are scheduled to arrive at the port and all precautionary measures to check the ship’s passengers and crew are ready, he said.

Soon after a positive case of deadly pathogen surfaced in Kerala, the district health officials here actively started monitoring all entry points in the bordering district. 

Apart from Mangaluru, there is bus connectivity to Puttur, Sullia, Bantwal, Dharmasthala and Subrahmanya from Kerala. More than eight to 10 trains arrive at Mangaluru daily from Kerala.

Hence, it is impossible to take up screening of all the vehicles arriving from Kerala, sources in District Health and Family Welfare said.
