Mangalore, February 25: The first ever state level conference of Campus Front of India (CFI) will be held on Sunday, February 27 under the theme “Students for Social Change” at Nehru Maidan here.

Announcing this to media persons at Press Club here on Friday, Abdul Rahman, Organising Chairman of the Conference said that the main objective of the conference is to empower the students in particular and campus in general.

He said CFI has been working towards creating awareness on social justice and movements among the students. It also mobilise the students to work with social responsibility.

CFI is aimed at preparing a responsible generation from the Indian campuses, he said.

The conference will start after hoisting the flag at Nehru Maidan by Muhammad Shakir, State President, CFI at 9 am.

In the technical sessions of the conference which is scheduled to be held at Don Bosco Hall near Jyothi at 10 am, activists and scholars are expected to address the students.

Under the theme “Where India is heading?” Shivasundar, popular columnist and Human Rights activist will speak on “Six decades of Indian Democracy”, Pattabhirama Somayaji, Lecturer of Mangalore University will speak on “Neoliberal Assault on Education”

Dr Shridhar, HOD of Vijaya College Bangalore will speak on “Terrorism: Myth Exposed” while Prof Udaya Barkur, Chairman of History Department Mangalore University will deliver lecture on “Saffronisation of the History”

At 3 pm, a large number of students across the state will take out a huge rally from Jyothi Circle to Nehru Maidan comprising of Bike show, Scout march and Daff.

A drama “College Seatu, Laksha Notu” depicting the ill effects of donation and problems faced by students will be staged at 4 pm.

At Nehru Maidan, a galore of scholars and activists including Gowri Lankesh, Chief Editor of Lankesh pathrike, Abdussalam Puthige, Chief Editor of Varhabharathi, Pattabhirama Somayaji, Shivasundar, Prof P Koya, Chief Editor of Thejas Daily, KM Shareef, General Secretary of Popular Front of India, Illyas Muhammad Thumbay, State President, Anees Ahmed, Chairman, National Advisory Committee of CFI, Majeed Kodlipet, State President of SDPI, Shahida Thasnim, General Secretary of National Women's Front, Hasan Farook, Tamilnadu CFI President, Ajmal Ismaeel, Kerala State President and others will participate.

Muhammad Shakir, State President, CFI, Imran Khan, State General Secretary, Thufail Ahmed, State Secretary, Nasir Hussain, Chief Convener of the conference and Hyder Habib, District President of CFI were present at the press meet.

Bengaluru, Jun 24: Dr K Sudhakar on Wednesday held a video conference with senior officials to review the preparedness for conducting of SSLC examinations safely which is beginning from Thursday.

"8,48,203 students will appear for the SSLC examination starting tomorrow in 2,879 centres across the state. All the guidelines issues by state government must be followed strictly" Sudhakar said in the meeting.

"It is the collective responsibility of officials of all departments to ensure that every student is safe, from the time he or she leaves home for the exam centre and returns home after the exams. The vehicles used to ferry students, where public transport is not available, must be sanitised properly. The surroundings near exam centres, exam halls, toilets must be sanitised properly. Social distancing must be maintained in the exam hall and mask must be provided to all students," he said.

The minister also said that since the students have been asked to arrive at exam centre at 7:30 in the morning, a small biscuit packet must be provided to each student so that they don't feel hungry during the exam and till they return home after the exam.

"Thermal scanning of every student should be done before allowing inside the exam hall. In case there is fever those students must be made to write exam in separate room. Separate exam halls must be arranged for students in quarantine areas and if it's not feasible they must be allowed to write exam in September. District administrations must disseminate information about precautionary measures taken to build confidence among parents," the minister said.

Sudhakar instructed the officials to work in coordination with the Education Department and other departments.

Stating that there are 458 containment zones in Bengaluru, the minister asked the officials to be extra cautious in these areas and make arrangements to ensure health department staff can take students to the nearest health center if anybody is found ill during the exam.

Education Minister Suresh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Javed Akhtar, Education Secretary, Secretary of Medical Education Department, BBMP officials, Health Experts and others were present.

Bengaluru, Apr 10: The Karnataka Education Board on Friday further postponed the annual examination for SSLC to May due to extension of lockdown to arrest spread of coronavirus which is spreading like wildfire in the state.

Minister for Primary and Higher Education S Suresh Kumar also announced that the PUC examination were also postponed to May.

"However, depending upon the situation we will announce the date in May and will inform the students one week earlier of the examination date to give time for preparation,"

Bengaluru, Jul 29: A day after Congress staged a nationwide 'Save Democracy' protest, Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy slammed Congress for "dividing" the political parties and "buying MLAs" and questioned their "democratic behaviour" to lure Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLAs who supported them.

Kumaraswamy, in a media statement, said, "Is it a democratic behaviour to lure MLAs of other parties through political shenanigans and later merging with them?"

"Congress is an expert in dividing political parties and purchase of MLAs," said Kumaraswamy adding, "If you are dividing the like-minded party MLAs through deceit, who would support you?"

He alleged that the term "horse trade" in politics came to be used because of Congress.

Congress had tied to divide the Janata Dal (Secular) in 2004. To this, he added, "To avoid the party being hijacked by the Congress, I had to oust the Congress-JD(S) coalition government through a political coup."

Kumaraswamy further accused, "Haven't the Congress who is making a big noise about the purchase of MLAs divided the JD(S) in the past? Is it not a fact that for the sake of one Rajya Sabha seat, the Congress government in Karnataka purchased eight JD(S) MLAs?"

Both -- Congress and BJP -- are "criminals" in purchase matter, he added.

Rajasthan Congress is in turmoil after simmering differences between Sachin Pilot and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot came out in the open. Pilot was removed as the Deputy Chief Minister and the state unit chief of Congress.

The Congress has accused the BJP of indulging in horse-trading to bring down the Gehlot government. The BJP has rejected the allegations.
