Mangalore, February 26: The black Scorpio, which was used by the assailants to murder Kabeer at Charavu near Gururpur along NH 13 on Friday, was found deserted at Malemar on the outskirts of the city early on Saturday morning.

Kavoor police have seized the vehicle, bearing registration number KA19 ME1414, owned by Abbas K son of Haji Beary, a resident of Mundaje, Belthangady said Deputy Commissioner of Police R Ramesh. A sharp sickle was also recovered from the vehicle.

Although, no arrest has been made so far in connection with this murder, which is depicted as an act of revenge, Mangalore City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has expressed confidence of nabbing the accused soon.

Meanwhile, in an effort to prevent any possible backlash of the brutal murder, police, under the limits of City Commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada rural district, have been put on alert and officials put on bandobast duties, as the district has a long history of retaliatory attacks that such murders with communal overtones bring in the wake of the initial incident.

Singh said that police have stepped up vigil across the city police commissionerate limits in wake of the incident. “We have posted additional police personnel in Gurupur, Kaikamba, Vamanjoor and other communally sensitive areas to counter any possible backlash and have used KSRP and DAR men there,” he said.
