Bus-jeep collision leaves 1 killed, 5 injured

Mangalore, February 28: A person was killed and five others suffered injuries in a gruesome road accident involving a passenger bus and a jeep on Sunday at Harladka Jeerumakki Kemraje village in Sullia taluk, official sources said.

The victim has been identified as Janardhana, who was driving the jeep, which collided with an oncoming KSRTC bus. The injured are Radhakrishna, Venkataramana, Premalatha, Thanushree and Chennamma, who were travelling in the jeep. They have been admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore for emergency treatment.

A heavily bleeding Janardhana succumbed to injuries when he was being shifted to the hospital.

A jeep driver was killed and five others injured when a KSRTC bus collided against the jeep in which they were travelling at Harladka Jeerumakki Kemraje village in Sullia taluk on Sunday.

Sullia police have registered a case of fatal road accident.

Karnataka govt to build Rs 200 crore pilgrim complexes at Tirumala

Tirupati, Jul 5: The Karnataka government will soon build a massive pilgrim amenities complex and marriage hall at Tirumala, the hill abode of Lord Venkateswara, at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore, a temple official said here on Saturday.

The state would soon submit a blueprint for the construction of the Rs 200 crore mega complexes to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) that governs the hill shrine, the official said.

Consequently, based on the designs, TTD would construct the complexes with the given fund and after completion, they would be handed over to the Karnataka government, he said.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa would lay the foundation stone for the mammoth complexes on the hills some time next month, he said.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to take part in the programme, he added.

We are facing shortage of medical facilites and the people are dying on the road by not getting a bed in the hospital. Please use these amounts for the same. During this Pandemic not even hindu brothers also accept this offer. Leave all vote politics and concentrate to develop the state.

Mangaluru: Three more COVID-19 positive persons discharged

Mangaluru, Apr 6: Three more COVID-19 positive cases in the Dakshina Kannada district have been recovered and discharged on Monday.

All three are Kasargod residents and were being treated in the city’s Wenlock hospital.

A 22-year-old man Bhatkal was discharged on Monday after recovering fully from the infection.

A total of 12 cases have been found COVID-19 positive in Mangaluru till now, said B Rupesh, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate's Office, Dakshina Kannada, on Monday.

"So far, 4 positive cases have recovered in Mangaluru, of which 3 COVID-19 positive patients have recovered and have been discharged today," said Rupesh.

He further said, "A total of 12 positive cases have been reported in the city till now."

As per the latest update by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of confirmed cases in the country is 4281. 151 cases are from Karnataka.

Amendment in APMC Act will aid farmers in getting remunerative price: BSY

Bengaluru, May 15: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday said that the new amendment in the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act will substantially aid the farmers in getting remunerative price for their produce.

"Our motto is 'First Farmers'. The new amendment in the APMC Act will provide an opportunity for farmers to sell their produce directly to any purchase outside APMC or in other APMCs. This will help the farmers in getting remunerative price for their produce," CM Yediyurappa tweeted.

"Amendment will not dilute the powers of the work of the APMCs. All these marketing activities will be monitored by the Directorate of State APMC. This new amendment Act will benefit farmers in improving their income & suffering from losses due to market fluctuations," the Karnataka CM added.

Yediyurappa further said that the amendment will indirectly help farmers in doubling their income by 2022.

"This amendment will indirectly help farmers in doubling their income by 2022. I want to clarify that we have not removed the APMC Act, we are only amending 2 sections of the APMC Act which enable farmers to sell their produce at the markets where they intend to," he tweeted.
