Nitin Gadkari arrives in district to attend key RSS meet

Mangalore, March 7: After landing at Mangalore airport, Bharatiya Janata Party national president Nitin Gadkari headed towards Puttur, where the leaders of Sangh Parivar from across the country have already gathered for a high level meeting.

Gadkari is taking part in the annual meeting of Akhil Bharatiya Prathinidhi Sabha (ABPS), highest body for policy formulation and decision making of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Prior to the annual meeting of ABPS, which is scheduled to commence on March 11, a mega convention got underway at Vivekananda High School Puttur near here on Sunday with Mohan Bhagwath, RSS sarasangachalak addressing 'Sanghik', a mammoth gathering of RSS swayamsevaks.

Liquor worth Rs 197 crore sold in Karnataka on second day of lockdown relaxation

Bengaluru, May 6: The second day of liquor sales in Karnataka on Tuesday after easing of lockdown curbs saw a nearly five-fold jump in earnings, with Rs 197 crore worth spirits being sold.

According to top Excise Department officials, 4.21 lakh cases of Indian-made liquor, comprising 36.37 lakh litres, worth Rs 182 crore and 7.02 lakh litres of beer in 0.90 lakh cases worth Rs 15 crore was sold on Tuesday.

On Monday, when sales resumed in the state, Rs 45 crore worth liquor was sold.

"We had never expected such a record sale. It's unprecedented," an Excise official who did not wish to be named said.

Liquor sales had resumed in Karnataka on Monday after a 41 day gap following the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Covid-19: Karnataka police raids 120 shops black marketing food grains

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Police on Wednesday conducted surprise raids at nearly 120 shops in Bengaluru following complaints of black marketing and sale of foodgrains above the MRP rate.

Sandip Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Bengaluru in a tweet said that action has been initiated against these shopkeepers.

Though the government has maintained the supply chain of essential items, few shopkeepers have used the lockdown opportunity to charge higher prices for essential items.

Will conduct CET exams as per HC order: Karnataka deputy CM

Bengaluru, Jul 29: State officials will conduct Common Entrance Test (CET) exam as per the instructions given by the state high court, said Karnataka deputy chief minister CN Ashwathnarayan on Tuesday.

"Officials have informed that they are all set to conduct exams on July 30 and 31. We will put this matter in front of the high court. As per the instructions of the high court, we will move forward," said Ashwathnarayan.

This comes after Karnataka High court asked the state government to reconsider the decision of conducting the CET exam.

"...I had called an emergency meeting with district collectors, officials of education, transport, health, police department. And, I took information about the preparedness for conducting the CET exam," he added.

Karnataka CET Exam is a state-level entrance exam organised for providing admissions in Engineering, Pharmacy, B Pharma and other courses offered by colleges and institutions located in the state.
