The culprit is identified as Subhash Chandra, Head Constable of Bajpe police station.
Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, D S Jagamainair, SP, Lokayukta Police, said that action was taken against the cop following a complaint by a certain Muhammad Muhiyuddin of Belthangady. Muhiyuddin in his complaint had said that the constable in question had held up his passport and demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to return the same, Jagamainair said.
“He is from working in the gulf and is scheduled to return soon. He filed a complaint with us stating that the cop had held his passport and was demanding bribe to return it to him immediately. We took the necessary action and caught him”, Jagamainair said.
