Naxalism growing due to govt's neglect of adivasis: Pejawar Shree

Belthangady, March 10: The failure of government to distribute title deeds for Adivasis living in Kudremukh National Park and the negligence of the people towards their problem has resulted in the exacerbation of Naxalism in this part of the state according to chief pontiff of Pejawar Mutt Sri Vishvesha Theertha Swamiji.

He was speaking after visiting Naydaguri area in Sulkeri near Belthangady on Wednesday, where houses of adivasis were demolished by revenue department recently.

Addressing the media persons the octogenarian Swamiji demanded an appropriate action against those, who demolished the houses belonging to aborigines.

Expressing concern over the problems faced by the adivasis, the religious leader turned activist said that he will exert pressure on the government and district administration to take immediate measures to distribute title deeds to the evacuated adivasis and make all necessary arrangements to lead a peaceful life.

DK records highest single-day spike of 97 covid cases; Udupi records 40

Mangaluru/Udupi, June 28: The coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have recorded 97 and 40 fresh coronavirus positive cases in last 24 hours.

With the highest single day spike, the total covid-19 positive cases in Dakshina Kannada mounted to 665, among which 272 cases are now active.

So far 313 people have recovered and discharged from the hospitals. 13 covid-19 patients have passed away. Two among them have died due to non covid reasons.

With the 40 fresh cases, Udupi’s total mounted to 1179, among which only 135 cases are active. 1042 people have recovered and discharged from the hospitals. Two people passed away.

Evacuation flights from Muscat, Doha to Mangaluru via Bengaluru on May 20, May 22

Mangaluru, May 12: Air India will operate two flights - one each from Doha and Muscat - to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Qatar and Oman to Mangaluru next week.

The flight from Muscat to Mangaluru will be operated on May 20 via Bengaluru. It will depart from Muscat International Airport at 1.15 pm local time and reach Bengaluru at 6.15 pm. After the layover at Bengaluru airport, the flight will take off at 7.15 pm and land at Mangaluru International Airport at around 8.10 pm.

Doha – Bengaluru – Mangaluru flight is will be operated May 22. The flight will take off from Doha at 1.30 pm local time and will land at Bengaluru at 8 pm. It will take off from Bengaluru at 9 pm and land at Mangaluru airport around 9.35 pm.

Covid-19 enters Mangaluru as youth who returned from Dubai tests positive for coronavirus

Mangaluru, Mar 22: A 22-year-old man from Bhatkal who had returned from Dubai on March 19 has tested positive for coronavirus.

Sindhu B Rupesh, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada confrimed this today.

The youth, after landing at Mangaluru International Airport had got admitted to Govt Wenlock Hospital.

The total number of coronavirus positive patients in India rose to 342 on Sunday, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

A total of 16,999 samples from 16,109 individuals have been tested for COVID-19 as of 10:00 am on March 22, as per ICMR data.

India reported two deaths today from the highly contagious virus - one each in Maharashtra and Bihar - taking the tally to six, as per state authorities.
